Questions about the UserData file

I am confused about the Saved UserData file.

It was my understanding that it would contain/backup any changes I made to the DAZ Studio content that I purchased or 3rd party content additions that I made. But when I open it in a text editor, it just had a long list of my recent DAZ Store purchases.

I did a word search for the names of the 5 new (Renderhub) G8 characters that I just added. — None of them were listed much less all of the “Categories” that I applied to them in the Content DB Editor.

BTW: The only way I was able to save the changes and then apply them to a second DAZ Studio on a different System hard drive was to save the (Mac) Library/Application Support/ DAZ Studio folder. I then went to the second hard drive/System and replaced that folder with this one. I rebooted and all of my modifications were there too. — I was just hoping that the saved UserData file would do the same thing - NOPE!

So what gives? What good it since it doesn't seem to back up your modifications and content additions?

User data should have  data for the local User product - things that have been suplied as oit turned into a vendor product will hve their own .dsx file with their metadata

The User Data file contains metadata that you have created, corrected, or added. After copying it to your other computer, you need to go to the Content Library on that other computer and import that User Data file with the Content DB Maintenence tool.

Thanks for replying Richard and barbult

Richard- I did't make them into a product .I just manually added them to the data & people folders. I then went to the Content DB Editor and gave them categories, etc. Maybe that's the problem.

barbult- I tried that, but none of the metadata, e.g. the categories that I applied, showed up.

Well I did just buy the Content Wizard (since it is on a good sale). Maybe it will set these package up correctly (if I can figure out how to use it).

    Thanks again
