DAZ Marketing Genius: convince skeptics with FREE Victoria 7

dracorndracorn Posts: 2,366
Naturally, the people at DAZ were reading all of the skeptics' comments about not wanting to buy Genesis 3 - mine included. So the geniuses give us an offer we can't refuse - free Vicky 7, especially to those of us who missed the free offer the first time around. Can you feel it pulling on you, now? Well, I might as well buy the morphs, and then the Fit Them All, and then maybe Michael 7 starts to look pretty good...and then...and then... Gotta hand it to you, DAZ 3D, you guys are pretty darn smart.

It didn't work for me, but it seems the nicest way to go about it. ;)

(I picked it up, sure, but if I really cared about G3F I'd want a bundle, and the buy-in for me is still a combination of expensive and 'lots of stuff that doesn't exist yet.')

The buy-in for me is so cheap that I have fallen into temptation. Alas that there is no similar Michael 7 offer, else my budgetary sins would be even greater!  Are there morphs to turn G3F into a male?

You're right of course, but 2 bucks for a Platinum Club item vs $31 for V7 is pretty cheap.

I'm surprised someone hasn't done one yet. Back when I was complaining about G2 vs G1, somebody showed me how to make V6 into M6. Wonder if the premise is the same with G3? I'll have to search if I saved that when I get back home.

And you get the Platinum item to use, too, of course.

What I need to start using Genesis 3 more I won't get for at least another 6 months - and it has to line up with a time I can take advantage of it, which won't be until after March Madness at least - a massive (70%+) sale on Genesis 3 characters.

I've been picking up the occasional Genesis 3 clothing here and there, but I haven't gone "all in" yet.  And yes, I did pick up V7 - even if it did mean picking up a PC Item I normally wouldn't have (I'm not into Sci-Fi)

Give another month or two and you'll start seeing insane deals on M7 as well, I'm sure. It always seems to be the way.

There's the Genesis 3 Cross-Figure Resource Kit. I think you need Wear Them All for G3F to fit G3M clothing, though. Maybe someone without Wear Them All can verify whether or not the base auto-fit includes G3M... But with Wear Them All, you can also auto-fit M4 and G2M clothing.

Yeah it was way too good a deal to pass up. Bought a PC item to get her, and any affordable Genesis 3 textures we can get are worth jumping on considering our old ones won't work (edit: well there's that product at that other place, but I don't have it). That's the only thing that's really held me back from the Genesis 3 line, although I've been buying the base morphs and other essentials lately so I can start giving them more of a chance.

I'm pretty sure G3F and G3M can autofit to each other without Wear Them All. Doublechecked, Wear them All doesn't have clones for G3M or G3F so they autofit to each other with just the base.  (I remember using that before I had Wear them All, but had to be sure.)

I wasn't going to get into Genesis 3 either. Several weeks ago, there was a deal too good to pass up. I bought the Victoria 7 and Michael 7 pro bundles. Then I had to have the morphs. Then I had to have... Then I had to have...

none of it works in Carrara so I don't bother yes

Yeah, I wasn't going to jump on the G3F bandwagon when she came out, then I got a great deal on V7, so i decided to try her out. Then I got the morphs, and a couple of other things for her and now she is my main figure,  go figure.

I actually thought i would have to wait till the new genX came out for me to be happy with any body shape, but thanks to Zevo and a few other morphs combined with the SimTenero Randomizer and I am really happy with the results

Yeah, now I need the same deal for a completely new system instead of V7 and I'm all set for Gen3 :D

Genesis, Genesis 2 Female, Genesis 2 Male, Genesis 3 Female and Genesis 3 Male are all free.  Victoria and Michael have not been the base figures since DAZ generation 4 figures.  You people could have tried them at any time with no extra cost.

Another thing that helps get into G3 is that there's a few decent freebie morphs for it. So there's that.

(Still not going with it, but hey)

All that matters to DAZ is making sure that enough potential customers have naked dollies that still need clothing.  The problem with any generation of figure is that it doesn't take long for most of the buyers to collect enough product that overall sales figures start to slump again.  In a year and a half this forum will be abuzz with kvetching and groaning about the Genesis 4 Female base looking too much like Taylor Swift, and endless debates about whether Victoria 4's double-jointed toes, additional buttock-bones and prehensile ear lobes make upgrading necessary.  And the majority of us will just keep using what works for us personally.

My own attitude is that you can never have too many figures, but that the G3s are still badly limited in application, so I'll pick up them up when it's economically advantageous to do so and it brings me assests that I can use with Genesis 1 & 2.  I bought Girl 7 purely because I saved far more on additional discounts by tossing her in the cart than she actually cost, and I bought MIchael 7, Gianni 7, Eva, Bethany, Olympia 7 and Victoria 7 once their bundles hit the point that they were so cheap that the effective cost equaled those figures being free while the clothing and hair items in them worked out to around $3.00 each.  On the other hand, I bought Josie 7 and Karen on launch, as I just really liked the potential they added to my runtime gene pool.  Gia 7 is... tempting... but I know that if I wait a few months, her Pro Bundle will drop to the $30 range.

Thanks, just nabbed 'em. Already have for Genesis and G2, those are some excellent morphs ... and the price is unbeatable. wink
