Looks like the next step from 123D catch

  • I was actually considering taking a look at 123D catch but accidentally came across this. 123D Catch costs money, neh? For now this doesn't. Hence why I shared. Gollum.

    Catch free

  • Ah okay. Then I guess I'll have to check it out so I can compare the two. So far Memento looks easier than all of the others I've tried.

  • Aaaand with 123D Catch you do things on the cloud. Rejected.

Hmm looks interesting.  Too bad it is so difficult to photograph my goldfish or I would use this to help me make a 3d goldfish.  For some reason my fish think I am going to feed them if I stay too close to their tank too long.  Either that or they just hope they will be fed.

Now I am wondering why it is free?

  • So your fish are a challenge. Oh shoot. I'd be down with that. LOL.

I imagine it's free because it's beta. I noticed they're working on a plethora of advanced features they're going to add. So I figure sooner or later it'll be majorly expensive like a lot of their more high end products. I'm mostly liking the fact that it's not a cloud based program. There was this other program I found last night that was really what I was lookiing for... Apple only. And a stupid subscription to export in obj. Nuts to that.

  • Wait wait I got it. surround the bowl with cameras and rig them to click at the very same time.

Sounds expensive.  I do not have a camera except for my phone camera.

  • Right? I wouldn't be able to do it either. But even if you were the Flash, I can't think of another way with only 2 cameras. I'm going to use the software to scan in toon hair sculptures made from clay. I have no idea if this plan is going to work.

I love my fish as much as one can love their goldfish.  Other words the fish must stay in their tanks and not be bothered.

  • This thread needs a like button. Stonemason has a point.

Worse that than, I suspect a lot of us was thinking the same thing as Stonemason suggested (myself included)

Out of water they'd look horrid and their tails and fins would be an even bigger mess. I think the site being discussed would do a pretty good job with a picture in the bowl but you'd need to add or fix some of the fins.

Well instant freeze drying is most humane of the things we can figure out ourselves to catch fish and seafood for eating. I'm pretty sure that's what they do with ocean caught fish so they don't suffer. It has a side effect of keeping them fresh but please look up that information yourself. Don't trust what I saw one time on an old nature documentary as fact.
