Best computer build

Looking to upgrade my computer. I'm currently on a Mac. Considering a PC for just Daz. Considering, I’d rather stay with a Mac, but I’m open.

I’m curious what the best builds for both a Mac and a PC would be. Not a big tech guy so keep it somewhat simple. I’m not doing animation, just a lot of elaborate scenes with multiple characters and heavy props. I’m working on graphic novels mainly.

Budget not a big issue.

Thanks!

You do need to give some kind of budget guidance, if only to say consumer/prosumer/pro and whether you could consider multiple GPUs but ideally some rough numbers - otherwise the answer would be a multi-CPU server with multiple pro-level GPUs, which would certainly be "best" but would also have a five digit price tag.

I'd like to keep it under 5000.00

    Thanks!

To start, a PC is the best option because you can get an nVidia card that runs with DAZ Studio and iRay.

Apple doesn't offer computers with nVidia. And Apple doesn't have any computers that can be upgraded to any great extent.

Beyond that, you'd want to look at DAZ Studio 4.XXX versus DAZ Studio 2025 (version 5?!)

DAZ Studio 2025 is still in Alpha stage. It's not fully formed. The nVidia 50XX cards will eventually work with DAZ studio 2025. They will not work with DAZ Studio 4.XX

Right now, you'd be in a kind of holding pattern. Do you want to build a computer to handle DAZ Studio 2025 when it's not yet an official version. And when the nVidia 50XX cards won't work with DAZ Studio 4.XXX?!

...I am considering the Blackwell generation as a future upgrade but for now have set on a configuration that will also work with 4.2x for the time being.  I have a 12 GB 3060 and Maxwell Titan X (the latter will be dedicated to driving the displays while the 3060 will be doing the "heavy lifting" for rendering..

The system is built around am Asus prime B650 Plus AM5 Motherboard ,  a Ryzen 9 9900X and 96 GB (expandable to 192)  of system memory

Once "2025" (Daz 5.x) reaches it's general public release (meaning plugins being updated to the new SDK)  then consideration for a more powerful high VRAM Blackwell GPU will come into play. The base system is designed to support either a 24 GB or 32 GB card.

In the meantime, if I can score an older 24 GB RTX  Qaudro card at a reasoble price, I would be content.

The 9900X integrated GPU is likely more than capable of doing that, for a fraction of the power consumption and heat generation compared to a Titan X.

    Once "2025" (Daz 5.x)

It will be 6.x.x.x in SDK terms, the numbering is going to match the Qt versiion used to build it in future since that is important compatibility information.

...I didn't realise AMD no longer produced Ryzen CPUs without integrated graphics.  Ryzen 7 still offered both types..

Still I would think even my old Titan-X would be more capable of supporting multiple displays compared to the 2 core AMD graphics processor on the CPU. .Integrated graphics uses system memory. .A discrete graphics card  has its own, in this case 12 GB of GDDR5.

@RIchard   I was wondering why I was seeing 6.x instead of 5.  Thanks for the clarification.

The latest X870 motherboards running a Ryzen 9 9950X or 9950X3D CPU now officially support DDR5 RAM sizes up to 128 or 192 GB at 6000 MT/s or higher (although I admit the RAM kits are fairly pricey).  This would give you more than enough system RAM to run the biggest Daz scenes (even those that would fill a 5090 GPU) and still have anough memory to support multiple displays using the integrated graphic processor.  This has the added benefit of freeing up a PCIe slot on your motherboard for other uses (like adding a PCIe card that can house multiple NVMe drives for lots of added high speed storage).  Something to consider if you have the budget...
