A resatart would usually indicate a driver or hardware issue, perhaps due to overheating while rendering.

Is there any way to check if tha twas the issue? I rendered 2 other images from this scene the other day without issue

For heat, all you can do is use a system tool such as GPU-Z from Tech Power up to monitor the temperatures. For driver issues the WIndows crash/system stability should give some idea (I use Who Crashed?)

Could be a lot of things, what are your system specs, including O.S. and studio version?

I'd recommend hardware monitor over richard's recommendation of GPU-Z as that will give an idea of the full systems thermals, fan speeds, and other diagnostic information, and  not just the gpus  information.

May also want to run some benchmarks to stress the system. Aida64, 3dmark, cinebench, etc.

16GB of memory is quite liimitiing, so that might be a factor. It might also be worth trying a slightly older driver, but still new enmough to meet the minimum requirements - sometiimes new drivers can be worse than the monimum needed.
