save it once and delete the data it is gone forever

I learnt a hard lesson about DAZ studio today
other programs once the geometry is loaded in the scene it is all there and can be saved as it's own unique file
I imported an Unreal Asset as an FBX and spent hours adding every texture map manually
saved it as a duf scene
well I decided to modify it and converted to instances (maybe that was the mistake)
I did not want all those bloated DATA files sooooooooooooooooo
I deleted them
I can do this in Poser, Carrara, iClone, Blender, Twinmotion
because
hey the geometry is loaded into the scene, it will just rewrite them
NO
am left with rounded edged grey cubes. missing files message and enormous sorrow

Comments
I spoke too soon but am confused
the original scene still loads with textures so not lost it just my modified scene but where are the DSF files stored?
the duf is 105MB so in there possibly, no autoadapted file I can find though
the lost scene only 3MB
I cannot resave it as a support asset it doesn't write the data files like before
Probably inside the DUF file, or in the data/auto_adapted folder.
If you don't save an asset then the geoemtry will be embedded or, as Bejaymac notes, go to the Auto* folder - if you, or the application, do save as an asset then it is no longer in the scene and deleting it will stop it from loading, just as deleting the OBJ file in /Runtime/Geometries will for Poser. The real difference is that Poser doesn't do the equivalent of saving the back-end assets.
yes according to Voidtools Everything, it is in the duf file, there is no autoAdapted or any other files sorting my entire drive by date
there is another issue, even though I cannot use Smart Content (PostrgreSQL will not run on my PC) I have tried everything
the duf scene will not appear in my library which is why I thought I lost everything
it loads through file, under recent even
and in Windows explorer it is there with the tip and duf png images
yes restatred D|S. PC, refreshed, everything
Where are they being saved to?
a library on the same drive as my DAZ bought content one, I have 4 there, a SmithMicro/Poser one, A Renderosity/other vendors one and this one I call my Temp Library, plus more on other drives
never been an issue, they save data etc to their own folders
and thet share a root folder with that data folder? Just checking that they are in a content directory.
each has its own content directory yes, and I place texture s in their own runtime on each etc
I use unique IDs saving as support asset# under specific vendor names (Epic in this case)
but given the scene file obviously is self contained apparently I may forgo the save as support asset in future
these are just props no rigging etc so no real need
