Scripts Broken ?

Hexdrake21Hexdrake21 Posts: 109

I have finally got a chance to really look at the Daz Alpha, and am finding that many scripts that I have bought (and not just from Daz) no longer work at all. Some of the products I have purchased are now gone, like Look At Me II Pose Control -- not only does the script not work, but when I searched I found the product isn't offered by Daz. While I have found where the major scripts that were integrated are mow located, I can't find any reference to the Look at Me script, which I use all the time. So, a few questions:

1) Is there a replacment for the Look at Me 2 script, and if so, where is it ?

2) Is there list of all known Daz products affected ?

3) Lastly, is there a timeline for when the script capability is fully functional ? Is this an issue on Daz's end or the individual creator's end ? I have a few scripts where I don't even know if the person creating them is even available anymore to re-write their scripts.

Also, the Daz teams deserves some big kudos for the rest of the Alpha. I am amazed at the speed differences, both in loading and manipulating characters. Other than scripts not working/missing, I am really liking the changes.

Still available, but most/all scripts and plugins would have to be updated to work in Daz 2025.

Currently it's a choice between two unsatisfactory versions of the program. Daz Studio 4.x supports the current catalog of scripts and plugins but doesn't support current video cards (RTX 5000 series). Vice versa for Daz 2025.

Hold on...did you just say 5000 series won't work with the base build, or does it not work a certain versions ? I literally just bought a PC with a 5000 series. I just sorta assumed the base version would work with the most recent series of graphics cards.

You need the alpha version of Daz Studio 2025 to render with a RTX 5000 GPU: the Iray version needed to get them to work is not compatible with Daz Studio 4.

Plugins won't work with DS 2025 while scripts may or may not (if a script has an UI, it likely won't work).

Having said that, the results of most scripts and plugins can be baked in the scene files, so if you need to use one of them, you can use Daz Studio 4 to make the change you need, then save these changes into the scene file before opening it in Daz Studio 2025 to finetune the lightings using Iray Preview or to do the render.

Daz Studio 4.x isn't compatible with RTX 5000 series.

Daz Studio 2025 (alpha) is compatible with those cards, but most scripts and plugins won't work with it unless they're updated.

Such updates might or might not happen, and might or might not require purchasing the new version of each product.

I'm not sure it is "most" scriupts, or that it is related to having a UI, but certainly scripts will vary in how well they work. Those that use undocumented features are likely to fail, those that take advantage of looseness in the old scripting standard that has been tightened up or changed in the new (e.g. variable scope, declaration order vs use) may well have issues and there have also been changes in how signalling is handled (which may affect a script with a UI if it uses such to react to events) and how objects are handled which may have impact. Which brings me back to my original three questions

    1) Is there a replacment for the Look at Me 2 script, and if so, where is it ?

    2) Is there list of all known Daz products affected ?

    3) Lastly, is there a timeline for when the script capability is fully functional (or is it now considered finished) ? Is this an issue on Daz's end or the individual creator's end ?

    and now I have a 4th:

    4) will I ever be able to use my 5000 Nvidia series with the non-Alpha build of Daz for rendering or is that not planned ?

I understand that products have a lifetime, but I would like to know which of the products I purchased have been affected so I don't waste time trying to figure out where they are, and if they are not working if it bc of new Daz, the new Daz is not working with them, or if it is user error.

    Thanks for clarifying :)

To answer #4 first - yes, you will - eventually. Nvidia had to move to a build environment for iray that generates modules incompatible with Studio 4.X, so the 50 series will never work with Studio 4.x.

Studio 2025 is the up and coming release, but it is in Alpha stage at this point - things are missing, and some areas are subject to change. This especially includes the scripting environment and the Software Development Kit (SDK). As such, while some PAs are working on upgrading their scripts for the 2025 verion they will want the environment to be stable before releasing them. Plugins, on the other hand, will need a stable SDK before being reworked.

Thank you namffuak ! Not what I wanted to hear, but I've dealt with alphas before and at least know what to expect now. Already a couple of weird things have happened while using Daz Alpha, but I guess I'm stuck. Funny that I upgraded in order to handle the more complex scenes.
