More Alpha 6.25 bug report: can't save animation

Now Alpha 6.25 is super fast at loading, making animation and rendering, it's first time in a long time that rendering movie doesn't take a whole day but 1-2 hours, but bugs still make it unsustainable, imaging you speed 6 hours on a short clips, another 6 hours to render it, just to find out it can not be saved.

First time i saved a 100 frame clip, it worked, second time I moved the default save directory to a custom folder and get this bug hunting me ever since. even after I moved the save directory to the original "render liabray" it still won't let me save.

This is the log from a failed test at 720P 20 frames

What is the ful path to which you are saving? Does it contain non-ASCII, accented, non-latin, etc. characters?

path: My PC -> Downloads -> small clips(custom folder) that's it, all file name with english letters combined with roman numbers.

Downloads is usually in the user folder, and your screenshot supports that - C:/Users/You/Downloads. C: might be running out of room, or your user name might have characters that DS isn't handling well.

C drive have 1t of free space, I have tried combiation of 20 different names, none worked, the only thing it can let the pop window off is cancel which cost me 6 hours of work

20 different names by using different accounts? I am asking about the folder name in c:/users/, not the names you are trying to apply to the file.

20 different names to the animation movie I wanted to save, I have only one account.   the folder name in C:/users/ is "C:/users/ download", I also tried to redirect the save folder directory to the original "render library", same result

Download isn't usually in the Users folder, usually that holds folders named default, Public, and with the names of any actual user accounts (your own, at least).

I think I probably found the root cause, the saved file was not formated into AVI by DAZ 6.25 like it was in 4.24/4.23, the save file just shown as "all file" when saving, see attached.  This issue should be easy to duplicate, but seems not alot users playing with animations

btw, i also notice all the plugin I purchased can't be found in 6.25,  will scripts and plugins make a come back in the next update or offical release?

Ah, you didn't say it was a movie and I was guilty of assuming it was a still. It is generally better to render to an image sequence, though.

What *might* be happening is that DAZ Studio saves all of the individual frames to a temp folder and the .avi that you get is only a container file with a link to the frames (which will be overwritten the next time you do an animation). For me, I'm able to drag that container file onto a video editing program (I'm using iMovie on a Mac, but most should work, I would think) an it pulls the frames in for me and treats it like a normal .avi, .mov or .mpg and if I export it, it's a normal file again, not a container.

You can test this by rendering out 20 or 30 frames.

Hopefully this helps. For me, it combines both the rendered frames and the audio automatically in iMovie, something I haven't been able to do for many years.

Even if it doesn't work that way for you, you should be able to find your rendered frames in that temp folder.

Just double-checked, and on the Mac at least .avi doesn't work, but .mov works perfectly. Under Windows, you might want to try a different output format than .avi if that doesn't work. Despite the .avi container file not working for me (and it may just be that the .avi itself isn't supported on the Mac without different add-ons) the individual frames *were* in the temp folder.

Tried both, but save file just refuse to convert, image sequence are usually saved as png, but after the rendering, Daz just not coverting the file to either AVI nor png.

I'm not upset or looking for a solution right away, I understand it's the alpha built, just wish to bring this to dev's attention.  As well as issues like script not working and plugins can't be found.

Hi Thank you for the input, but I think you misunderstood the problem.  is not that daz format movie won't work in certain player, it's about Daz not converting animation file to proper format, hence can not be saved.  yes I tried both movie and image sequence with 0-10 frames in low res, but nothing works.

Might your security software be blocking /bin/ffmpeg.exe in the Daz Studio aplication folder? What about rendering a sequence and then converting to a video using another tool?
