stock video as to yours

Someone mentioned they paid $175 for a stock video clip of a scene of people on treadmills. I myself have seen hefty price tags for other stock footage. 

So in this light, what are people here doing with their completed animation clips/stories/sequences/whatever? Or rather, is it possible to cash in on one's Short animation clips? Like say around 2 minutes or just under.

To, in light of that stock stuff, it seems it may be lucrative to capture one's own footage to proffer. I've yet to query google and thought I'd ask here first. Sounds like a joker could go down to the local health spa (etcetc) with camcorder and do same....

I've ani/captured clips - but one is about 3 minutes and I've put a hell of a lot of work into that. I'm not sure how to market this if it's even possible. But in light of that sometimes silly stock stuff (aliteration) there may be a chance.
