An environment is structured like a figure.

I got this bridge asset and was trying to duplicate one of the existing chairs to put it in front of the security station, however that just copies the entire bridge, and making every other element of that copy but a chair invisible doesn't do anything. When I looked at the composition of the asset in the Scene tab, I saw that it has bones like a figure. I'm not a Daz expert, however I've never seen something like this before. What is this, and how can I get more chairs?

    yeah, I dislike those choices

only option is to hide everything else, export an obj and reimport that

With geometry editor, you could select all of a chair, invert the selection, hide the selection and delete hidden faces. And then save it as a new chair.

Although I would probably export to a modeller and do the split there.

I probably should not have said only option as there are in fact several ways to do it

another being send to Hexagon via the bridge and editing it there

You might be able to use Code66's  Environment Set Splitter to seperate things.
