why is every Daz character the same height?

It does not matter if I load them straight up as a whole or add them to default G8F every character is the same default height when they are not meant to be. Say I purchase a character who is supposed to be 5 foot tall she will still come up as the normal G8F height, why is this? thx.

because it is easy to scale up characters in d/s (scale up, or use specific dials to make different parts longer or shorter)

Be it my giants, or my gnomes, they are all the same size because people all have their own ideas how big they want these things in their renders. So it is easily left to the person creating the art to make them the size they like.

If you are using characters that say they are a different height (like many of the daz Name # characters) rather than expecting a variation when none is mentioned then that is a diferent matter.

Some products have incorrect listed heights, but it's an easy thing to customize with a height slider.

Yeah as others have mentioned it's really easy to tinker with heights and you absolutely should do that, pretty much all clothing will work just fine with scaled body parts. Not just height, you can tinker with leg length, arm length, torso scales, shoulder widths etc. Some long hairs may not scale smoothly across scaled body parts but I rarely see a problem with clothing, most of the characters I work with are scaled pretty far away from the defaults in various ways.
