Ground Reflections

I would like to create a scene with a character that has a black ground and high reflectivity, either a sharp mirror like reflection or a slightly blurred mirror like reflection. An example of what I am trying to do can be seen in the first image shown for this product :

I am not sure if I need to create a primitive / plane and get the reflection from that, or whether I should use the Environment Options Ground or Atmospheric Ground Fog settings (have tried playing with latter but not acheived the look I want).

Can anyone suggest the best / correct / easiest option to do this, and if its the Atmospheric Ground Fog, what settings to try?

Thanks.

This is done with a primitive plane, and some spotlights.

The plan is black with reflections at 1, and roughness at 0.

Can be adjusted to the purpose.

  • Felis, thanks for that, very helpful. There are a few surface controls for the ground primitive plane that I am not sure about, so will try some experimenting with those to see what happens. Also, I initially got a 'muted' reflection on the ground plane, but got a nice mirror reflection when I changed the setting for the Top Coat Layering Mode from Reflectivity to Weighted. I have a lot to learn but am making small steps forward! Thanks again for your help :-)

  • Finally acheived what I wanted to do, with a bit of additional post processing thrown in.
