Data files with no name?

Hi,

I've encountered in some of my content a few files that have no name and only an extension.  For example, in a very small set of products, the content creators have added files named ".dsf" or ".dsv" .  Now these products function just fine, and normally it wouldn't bother me, except that I'm currently using a cloud storage service to backup all of my content.  The cloud storage I'm guessing is some kind of Linux-based file system, because it treats any 'dot' file (no name and just an extension) as a hidden file.  I've spoken to the cloud storage support devs, and they recommend that I DO NOT backup files that are named like this.

So anyway, I was wondering if there is any valid reason why the content creators added these files?  Is there a special reason why they might have created files like this with no name?  Does such a file indicate something special to DAZ Studio?  I'm asking because I'm thinking about editing these files and any associated files, so that the files can be renamed to something more conventional i.e. adding a name, e.g. changing ".dsf" to "abc.dsf".  This way, my cloud backup won't have any problems.

    which products are these?

and yes, this would be out of the ordinary that the file names would have been stripped.

If I recall correctly Windows does this when deleting files, strips the file name, and if a user recovers the files this could happen, but it's been a long time since I've done a file undelete/recovery on Windows so I maybe wrong.
