First Render Fast, Second Render Slow, What’s Going On?

Hi everyone,

I’m seeing wildly different render times in Daz3D. After booting up, my first 2K render at 5000 samples takes about 15 minutes, but when I render the exact same scene and settings a second time, it jumps to around 40 minutes. Has anyone experienced this before, and what might be causing such a slowdown? Any tips to stabilize render times would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Do you leave renders open - they keep their data in the GPU so that they can be resumed, meaning that there are fewer resources for the next.

If that isn't the issue then it probably just ran out of memory in the GPU, towards the end of the first or the beginning of the second, and dropped to CPU - which is much slower. If you turn off CPU Fallback in the Hardware tab of Render Settings and restart DS it will just stop when it drops the GPU, which will be more obvious (then you can restart DS or try to optimise the scene to use a touch less memory).

You can also check Help>Troubleshooting>View Log File to see if this is indeed the issue
