Military base

To my surprise, there aren't many large-scale military base models - think Edwards Air Force Base, Fort Bragg Army Base or San Diego Naval Base - on DAZ3D, or the other major DS/Poser sites. Maybe it's just the sheer size of them that gets in the way, or maybe the classified status?

    Classified status wouldn't matter for a fictional one, size/complexity affects things like malls too and those are also thin on the ground.

    Shredder managed to create a proper mall model on Rendo.

    Probably because a 3d model of that scale would use to many resources and make it hard to render in DS, especially once you add figures, clothing and hair into the mix

    I could see it being done in sections and with instanced buildings. I recall most of the bases I've been on having rows of very similar buildings.

    It's probably not the big units that will overload but the less repetitive details, and the population

    Yeah I dunno that a fully outfitted military base could be made practical, but things like airstrips, barracks and similar could be useful for military scenes

    Air Force Bases in the U.S.A. are generally spread out quite a bit. Especially if built after the Korean War. Some have had civilian communities grow-up around them. Not good if the flight line is active.

    The flight lines are separate from housing, medical, and commercial areas, with maintenance and other industrial support buildings a reasonable distance depending on their purpose. You don't want a crash to happen in built-up areas. Base housing can look like 1950s mid-century modern all the way to early 21st homes, depending on current renovations. Office buildings look like office buildings. Depends on age of base. If on East Coast, you may have brick or wood colonial like at Bolling AFB, DC. There General Row is 19th C two-story homes that are 'pretty nice'. Barracks have been upgraded from the WWI/WWII ones I lived in without A/C to modern apartment like dorms. We did have pre-fab dorms in South Korea, fresh from Vietnam, with bullet holes, blood and other things spattered on the walls. Fresh air in the winter. I have also lived and worked in quonset huts in Europe and at Vandenberg.

    Edwards AFB was so far from the nearest town in California they had to move the 'main gate' 20 - 30 miles to the highway near Rosemond so it couldn't be classified as a remote assignment. I was stationed there for four years. Vandenberg is not that far, just 10 miles from Lompoc CA but is surrounded by a lot of bare space, so if a rocket crashes, it might not hit anything, or leak poisonous fumes. Both bases have to worry about that. Also there for four years. 

    Warehouses are huge, or small, depending on mission. Security fences are everywhere. Photography is prohibited, along with other forms of recorded images. 

    You could create a base with what is available in the DAZ store. The vegetation might be your biggest issue. Deserts, flat land, prairies, beaches and the odd forest backdrop or two for the older ones that saw action in WWI.

    There's also https://www.daz3d.com/forward-ops-and-construction-set, which is very ressource friendly. You can easily build big bases with it. And it's quite old, you propably can catch it for a few bucks on a sale.
