Maximum RAM utilized?

I'm having a problem with a particularly complex scene. In Task Manager, Daz Studio is reporting 32 GB of RAM used, but I haven't loaded all the assets I need into the scene. When I attempt to load the next asset, Studio freezes. I just let it sit for over 30 minutes and the log did not budge; I had to reboot to get control back.

My guess is Studio is not able to use more than 32 GB of RAM. This is not VRAM; I haven't even started to render yet. This is just the props and figures in the scene.

Can anyone confirm my theory or offer an alternative explanation?

Increase the virtual ram on one of your discs with enough space, that should keep it running.

  • I have 128 GB ram; the constraint is not that I'm out of RAM. Daz just doesn't seem to be able to use any more.

Are you sure you're not running the 32-bit version?

  • I wasn't aware there was one. How to tell?

On the menu bar - Help -> About Daz Studio it should show on the splash screen somewhere near the botton.

  • 4.23.01 64-bit. No luck there.

The maximum ram may depend on the c runtime, in this case visual studio 2010 that's still used for the daz studio sdk. I would not be surprised if 32 GB is the limit, as vs2010 is quite old now. But I searched on google and could not find any answer on this.

My suggestion is to use the scene optimizer to fit the scene, it acts on both vram and ram. Then yes it would be useful to know from DAZ if 32 GB is the limit.

In answer to the base question, no, 64bit studio does not have a 32GB limit.

To be sure, i ran tests on my primary workstation, 64GB, and two of my servers, one with 128GB of ram and one with 192GB of ram.

In each case i was able to get Studio to use all the system ram, and overflow into virtual ram.

My assumption, you've got a ram problem.

I'd suggest running some diagnostics/benchmark software to test the system out.

A simple test would be to see if the system crashes if rendering exceeds 32GB of system ram.

You can also run tests from bios, depending on mobo, use Windows Memory diagnostics, or a program like Memtest or Aida64.

    Best of luck.
