SY Hat and Hair Helper Genesis 8 - Changing Hair Material

I am having trouble getting hair attached to the hair helper to change Material colour, especially with hair that has H.Materials.

Is there any trick to getting this to work? Have tried selecting figure, hair helper and hair direct with no luck so far.

It's a great product an does help hide most hair under hats, but having to stick with the default hair colour limits its use for me (and hat use!).

You can temporarly fit the hair to the figure itself, then once you have the materials you want, you fit it back to the hair helper.
