Daz not finding Content after format

Hello!

I just did a fresh install of Windows 11 & DazStudio the other night.

I keep all of my content on a non-OS drive, but when I try to add my existing content through "Add Base Directory" or going into Preferences > Content > Content Directory Manager and setting that drive, it still won't load any of the content (e.g. clothing, textures, etc.)

Any help would be appreciated!

How did you instal?  Where are you looking? The reformat will have wiped your database, unless you had moved it, but if the paths are correct and you did not install through Daz Studio itself you should be able to find the files in the Content Library under Daz Studio Formats (or Poser Formats, if appropriate).

I did go through and download everything I had in my Smart Content tab and all of that works without issue (though now I have two copies of many of these; one in the default content library and one in the secondary hard drive, where it can see and list the assets, but won't properly load them)

I also have some stuff from renderosity and such in that secondary hard drive content library and its not recognizing those item either.

So it took a couple hours of fiddling but it appears I have everything fixed!

I'm not sure which step fixed it, but I will list what I did in case someone else has this issue.

Uninstalled DazStudio > deleted the folders in AppData > reinstalled on my second drive where the My Library/Custom Content folder is

Backed up my Content > Deleted the content folder created by DazStudio installer > created a new folder and linked to it in Content Library

In Edit>Preferences>Content>Content Directory Manager under "Daz Studio Formats" I added the root folder, the parent folder, and the content folder.

At least one or a combination of these steps worked! I hope it helps someone else.

And thanks for taking the time to consider the problem, Richard!

If the files were visible but not loading there are too likely issues: installed through Connect and DIM, you are looking at the DIM files but the Connect files (which DS will always use if present) are AWOL (unlikely unless you had copied the database across from the old system); mismatched folder settings in DIM and DS, so that you are seeing the user-facing files but the /data and /Runtime folders are not at the root of the content directory folder (so the relative paths don't work to find assets and textures).

Having content directories inside other content  directories is storing up trouble for the future - and if you have a folder named Content in there than that means my second possible cause, having an extra folder in the path so you had the wrong level selected, was almost certainly the issue. Take everything out of the "Content" folder and place it in the content  diectory (My Daz 3D Library or whatever you are using), then seelct that but not any parent or child folders as your content diectory.

At least one or a combination of these steps worked! I hope it helps someone else.
