VDB Essentials - Prep and Animate campire causing crashing?

JessieJessie Posts: 48

I just bought this, the VDB Essentials - Prep and Animate Bundle, today and all of the VDBs work as expected... except for the campfire. IDK what it is but, even if the campfire VDB is the only thing in the scene it will instantly crash daz if I try to enter Iray preview or do a render (still and movie).

I thought maybe there was too much going on in the scene but my test render with the large torch VDB (it was an abandoned hallway with 8 separate torches, countless decals, spiderwebs, two g9 figures with dforce hair/clothing, and 2 hanging fur pelts made out of strand based hair.) went just fine. Despite being much, much more complicated/ model filled, it didn't crash once and render time for a still image was 30 minutes, while a short video was 2 hours for 120 frames.

Does anyone have any ideas on what's going on with the campfire VDB and if so, how do I fix it? The spefic error is an access violation??

Oh, and my system specs are, if it makes a difference, Intel core i9-14900k, 32 GB ram, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 super, win 11 and Daz is updated to the most recent version.

Hi, so sorry to hear you are running into an issue with the campfire!

I have not been able to duplicate this issue so I'm shooting in the dark here...One thing to try is to have you set it up yourself. Could you please try the following:

    1. Run the VDB Wizard tool and keep the default settings
    2. Select a campfire file at "Runtime\Textures\DimensionTheory\VDB\Animated\Campfire" and click Accept
    3. Select the campfire and apply the attached MAT preset
    4. Render (or switch to Iray Drawstyle)

This will help us determine if there is a problem with the way the content is setup or if maybe there is something in the VDB files themselves we need to look into

  • I'm not getting this to happen on my end but I'm trying to figure it out.

Can you navigate to the folder containing the campfire VDBs and check to see if the file size for everything matches this exactly?  It could be possible that they extracted incorrectly and a corrupted file is causing Daz Studio to explode.
