Custom categories for product library. Can we have this please?
in The Commons
Hi Daz,
Its getting more and more difficult to keep track of all of my products. With all of our RDNA stuff merging, its just going to compound the problem. If we could have a way to customize our product libraries by creating our own custom categories it would make product searches so much easier than it is now. If we could even just have the ability to view according to product type that would be nice. For example, Hair products, Props, Figure, etc.
Please consider this Daz. Ive only been here for a few years but I now have many, many pages in my library. I cant imagine how large the product libraries are for some of the long time users.

You already can. (If you are referring to within DAZ Studio?) In the Content Library pane, under Categories. Right-click Categories and select "create a subcategory" to create a new empty folder, for example. Right-click a content thumbnail and select Categorize, then browse to and/or create new folders of your own and click the checkmark in front of it to add/remove it to/from one or more categories.
EDITED: I misread that, you are referring to the product library in the store, not the content library, sorry.
Very much this — I like the Product Library page, it's simple and straightforward to use, but finding something when you don't already know the exact name (or a good substring) is like nailing jelly to the ceiling. Maybe something similar to the features in the Wishlist page?

Mine is not as big as many and i have 64 pages here, and quite a few at RDNA.
I don't know how do it the people with lots of pages of products. I have very few page (against all my desires) and still find stuff that I didn't know that I own.
Ive got 51 pages. I have no idea how many pgs. rdna will add.
Sitting at 116 thanks to the merger sale and I'm not nearly the highest count (i've seen folks over 200 pages). It can be a real nightmare to find things, especially if the item has an odd name. Even a list someplace of useable filters would be a big help. They have content tracker programs like by Winterbros but those things tend to start breaking down once you get a high number of items.
When I click "Products" on the account page, I get...156 pages...maybe I should seek councilling?
My RuntimeDNA purchases were really high a number of years ago, but was limited to a small number each year for the last several years. I can't say exactly why. Maybe because I preferred Renderosity or DAZ (different times, different preference) or maybe it was just the focus of the content...I can't really remember why. Having DAZ purchase RNDA isn't exactly ideal in my opinion, but as long as renderosity still exists, we know that there is at least a little competition with DAZ. I had quit really buying here until March Madness of last year. Prior to that, I refused to use DAZ studio and renderosity got most of my spending money. But, due to some crazy deals during MM, I decided to give it one more shot and have pretty much ignored all others for DAZ while I'm catching up here at DAZ. Renderosity is probably really hoping that encryption catches on here, because people like me will probably end up back there once again.
Seems like a pretty decent idea. It's a little tricky because our frontend caching system is built around "active" products, where your product library can have a bunch of inactive products.
While it might not be as personalizeable as custom categories, maybe a good first step would be to show the products as categorized in the store. This would be easier for many users because you wouldn't have to hand categorize everything you buy.
Sadly, this won't be happening soon, there is a lot of work for the migration that needs to be done and that is going to come first. I'll add this to the TODO for when the product library gets some well needed touchups.
121 pages for me here, and 17 ar RDNA. So yeah, some kind of categories / tags systems to search the product library could be useful :)
Sweet! Thanks Rawb. Anything that would help organize and streamline product library searches would be most welcome.
