Sad day

Our 14 year old cat had to be put down on Monday.  She has been picky with her food for a year but she was always a good eater.  In September she was 9 1/2 lbs.  A bit overweight for her size.  By January she was down to 8.  I insisted on an x-ray and they found a mass in her abdomen.  Eventually she stopped eating or drinking.  It was so hard to decide when to do it.  I waited 2 days too long.  She was only 5 lbs. on Monday.

I told the doctor that he could do an autopsy.  They found that her bile duct was completely contorted and full of tumors with small tumors in her liver as well.  He said that in all his years he'd never seen anything like it.  My poor baby.

Probably should not have posted here but it's been hard on us.

I may do a challenge again but not at this moment.

Edit:  I attached 2 photos from last Friday.  You can see how skinny she is.  It was her last good day.  She accepted scratches and rolled on her back.

I'm sorry for the loss of your feline companion. Animals are special, and besides giving us companionship, they offer us their loyalty and affection. I don't have any pets, but I do have a couple of "feline nephews" that I love very much. There was another one who left home almost two years ago and never returned; her mother (my friend) and I still miss him.

Don't worry, I think it's good you mention it here. She was important to you and, in a way, part of your family. My sincere condolences.

    Condolences !

Pets are part of the family for us - I have a dog who is 16 years old and is getting a bit more frail each month - will miss him when he goes to the big park in the sky ......

I am sorry for your loss, NGartplay. It is never easy to get over such a loss. Look at the bright side, she is now not suffering anymore.

So sorry for your loss, NGartplay. She looks to have been a very sweet girl. Losing our companions is always tough its impossible to ever prepare. All the best to you and the family.

This is always so, so heartbreaking. I'm very sorry for the pain you're experiencing right now.

But I'm also happy to know now of one more person who loved their cat and took good care of it, even when it was old and fragile, because we desperately need people like this on this burdened little planet I believe. So please keep the faith, keep your poor heart strong, and go on being kind and good to animals, despite the hurting. You're making the world a better place.

You've all been so supportive. Thank you for the kind words of comfort.

She was a 3 year old rescue when we got her.  She hid under our bed for 2 years before she started to trust us.  We had her for 11 years.  Hubby is a dog person but he grew to love her.  She would lay on the carpet in front of him as he read his paper.  He loved that.  She was not a snuggly cat but she was friendly and always greeted people who came by and she followed us around the house.  She was perfectly happy to sit on the couch arm or my computer desk and accept continual pets. If you stopped, she would walk in front of the computer screen until you started petting her again.  Hard to type with one hand.

I'm sorry for you loss. The love for an animal member in your famiy is the same love you have for any other family member, the only difference is that the time with your animal family is shorter and often the purest.

Oh, no, so sorry for your loss NGartplay!! .. I know this is days late.. I really feel for you.  11 years is a long time!  I lost my Parrot of over 20 years a few years back and I cried for days and made a shrine for him in the front yard.. his name was Chipper and yes, they ARE part of your family and our hearts.. So sorry to hear this!

I've been away from the forum for a few days so I've only just read your message, unfortunately. I'm sorry for your loss, NGartplay. It's hard to lose a pet, a companion in fact. Your cat had a good home and lots of care until the end.

Thank you so much PixelPie and Elector-Elvis.  We're STILL looking for her in her favorite places when we walk by.  I miss her sleeping against me at night.  Because it was a blessing for her to be relieved of the suffering, I don't feel bad.  I just miss her.

PixelPie, sorry about Chipper.  Birds are such cool animals.  I used to take care of my brother's Myer's parrot when he traveled.  That stinker chewed my books, my cords but you couldn't be mad.  So fun.
