Not pleased with DIM

I just spent several days downloading my content on my new computer.  And when I open daz studio i have to update and install files that DIM did not do.  I find files that require that they be re-downloaded and installed on my computer thought daz studio.  Honestly what gives here.

  • It sounds to me like you logged into the optional DAZ Connect when you started DAZ Studio, as well as possibly unning into the "infamous" database issue.

  • I did log in, but the problem exists that when you download using DIM it asks if you want to install after download, it did not.

Do you mean you had "Install After Download" ticked but DIM didn't install them, or that DIM installed them but DS didn't see them as installed?

  • DS did not see them when DIM installed them.  Now I am trying to get them to install with DS Connect and getting the oh its downloaded and needs the update, but not getting the file updated.

  • Looking at my installed folder on DS and low and behold dozens of files that say they need to be installed.  Many files are failing to install from az connect..

Can you post these 2 screenshots:
    1) In DS, Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats"
    2) In DIM, on Ready to Install tab check the "Show Details" box in the lower right

  • went back and deleted all the files and uninstalled them in the DIM.  And on the DS screeen shot you can see come files not showing and some not installed.

The path that DIM is installing to is not listed as a Daz Studio Format and Poser Format content folder, so Daz Stuido isn't seeing them.  Add that path to both of those sections and the content will appear.

  • thanks, working on fixing the problem.

So, I corrected where it looks for content, matching the folders exactly.  And still have content that I have to install, after reseting the database.  my luck holds.

Did you Re-Import Metadata after resetting the database?

  • I've had that issue once or twice, too. I usually just go to the second tab and install it. Once it's done, it shows up as expected.

As Mike suggested, re-import your metadata. Open DIM, go to your installed tab and select all. RT click on them and select "Re-Import Metadata" then "all selected"

OY.. Starting a new install, same computer, deleted all of the files and Daz Studio and reinstalled everything to my specified file folders.  As usual the Studio or the DIM messed up.

Re-imported the metadata on both daz studio and on DIM and this is the latest pic of the DS.. joy.

What folders is DIM pointing to, which foldrs is DS looking in?

Currrently on my computer both are pointed at c/downloads/my content or my connect content.

Can you post the 2 screenshots as they are currently?

DS still shows that I have numberous files not installed and dead links to some files.  But most of the time I can navigate in DS to the files in question.

You shuld add "My Daz 3D Content" to Poser Formats as well -- DIM installs Poser-format items also.

That way is likely to confuddle Studio as you have a library with DIM and Connect folders and files mixed together. If you are installing on the c: drive anyway why did you bother to change the default paths in DIM and Studio?

There's no problem with using the same content folder for both DIM and Connect-installed files.
