Installing DS on new laptop.

First of all, what is the latest version of DS (my previous was pro 4.8)? Loaded genesis for a quick test, for some reason using the Universal tool lights of areas of the body (like the surface selection tool) but it didn't used to do that, and when I first click on Genesis it selects a body part not the whole figure like it used to do. Is there something in settings to sort this? Also Genesis isn't in the smart menu anymore, I have to search for him.Any advice welcome.

The current version is Daz Studio 4.23.0.1 and the current Public Beta is Daz Studio 4.23.1.40

So far I think i prefer my old 4.8, but is that even an option?

Only if you have saved an installer for that.

How did you install your content ?

I'm installing it with DIM and I can get the Genesis figure on Smart Content, searching for 'Starter', because searching for 'Genesis' will also show everything with Genesis in its name (so any clothes, figures, props made for any Genesis figures, regardless of its generation, which can be quite a lot of items to browse…).

And in which order did you install it ?

I had a problem with the Postgre connection not working, and turned out I installed Daz Studio and the Postgre SQL app in the wrong order…

I still have that version of DS on my old laptop, would that have the installer?

Genesis is back in smart content after I reloaded DS.

If you only have the program installed then no. You would need the download files from DIM, or the manual installer downloaded from your product library.

Honnestly though DS 4.8 is now really old. There have been many major features relased since then that you might want to try, like dForce, strand based hair, VDB, Filament/filatoon.... And if you ever want to use newer figures like G8 and G9 you will need to a more recent version as they will not work in 4.8.

Changes to software always annoy me, even if they're improvements. But I'll stick with the new version (for now at least), and give it a fair chance, see if I get used to it.
