Ouch, I was just attempting to upload a freebie model I just created to ShareCG and was wondering why the link would not open.

I hope you have backups of your freebies and post them on Rendo, Render Hub, 3D Shards, or some other site. It would be a shame if your freebies are lost forever.

Very sad. It was an invaluable resource.

Well on the plus side, I am surprised and delighted at how lively RenderHub is, seems like it's quite a lot more active than Renderosity - I had been settled on ShareCG and Renderosity for freebie posting since the V3/V4 era and never really looked for another place. Moving my freebies over there in the past few days has been really popular, I guess there's an entirely different - and large - audience that frequents that site. The back end tech is snappy and well-managed, modern, pleasant to work with. Thanks to RichardAndTracy and other people who suggested it as an alternative.

Thanks for the heads up, Squishy. I too have been mostly using ShareCG and Renderosity for freebies, but I need to get used to using RenderHub and 3DShards too. :)

I was surprised to see it was back on yesterday, after this black page with text the previous day, and I could grab some more items and thought they maybe moved it to a new server location ... only to discover this morning it's gone again seeing this page again with text! Happily I have many downloads over years saved but it was still my main site to visit regularly.

it's been a very positive experience so far

Squishy You are not alone, other 3D Artitsts have their presence over there.

There is a feedback system that let the users rate their experience with the freebies and paid products.

Good luck to 3D artists, take the time to make some improvements if necessary.

  • they've had an urgent page up for the past week. today, that oracle page. Adios - sharecg. 3Diva, lemme know where else you post; rendo, renderhub, 3dshards, poseraddicts, fantasies realm. Thank you!

ShareCG had been an invaluable resource platform for new and veterans, hobbyists and pros alike. It's truly a sad day to see all of that go. I hope the folks that provided their free resources will be able to move their stuff elsewhere for the future.

  • I will miss the site. I did manage to grab a lot of items from my favorite artists & a couple things from other artists recommended in the other thread

Some say they can log in and download right now. I haven't been able to, but if you can get in, I recommend grabbing anything you might have regretted not getting.

When I logged in it kept coming up as "Login to Download" the items I was interested in, despite multiple Logins .....

  • 3Diva3Diva Posts: 11,970
@Bunyip02 Same here. Hopefully I will be able to get in later this evening.

I was surprised to see ShareCG open again today but login not working anymore which mean models can't be downloaded.

They should remove login as how it was years ago without login needed!

Downloading zips consumes bandwidth and websites operate with internet plans that limit bandwidth and my guess is their servers are overwhelmed by sudden traffic . . . sort of like black friday with a ground hog day effect.

ShareCG officially closed now. It will be missed. A lot.
I know there are other sites that host wonderful freebies, but it seems to me that they are oriented towards newer stuff, like the "suggested alternative" (suggested by ShareCG) RenderHub. I wonder if these new sites will happily accept all the older stuff (that I love, going back to generation 2, Miki, Apollo Maximus, Kururu, Deco and stuff like that).
Also, I find it difficult to search for the freebies among the paid items, there. Hope they improve the tools.
At the moment, I feel the closest  option to ShareCG is Renderosity's freestuff section.
I don't know if there are other initiatives like this and if they will be effective, but I appreciate the effort:

Anyway, hope that most freebies resurface somewhere, somehow.

https://www.renderhub.com/free-3d-models gets you to the free models section and there are filters within it.

Doing a store search and then sorting by price low-high (or filtering by Price> 'max price' (toggle from 'min') to $0 doesn't work, but setting that to $1 gets you the freebies for your search).

Edit: I signed up there to give it a try. It's easy enough to use, and allows multiple promo images (Rendo only lets us have one) so I'll probably upload more freebies there. This one is the test: https://www.renderhub.com/silent-winter/refbot-sw

I just discovered 3D Shards and I like it, especially because the downloads are DIM ready. Most vendors don't go the extra mile to do this (that make DAZ products) and they save me lots of time versus a manual intall.

Thank you Silent Winter. I still find it cumbersome and not intuitive, but your 1$ tip is very useful.
    Nice upload test! :-)

At the top of the page it says "Marketplace" - right next to that it says "Free 3D", if you click that it will go to the freebie section. :)

FYI for any folks who had free Poser content and didn't see a section for it on RenderHub (because tbf there wasn't one) today they added a browsable section for Poser content:

    https://www.renderhub.com/forum/10328/new-poser-content-section-on-renderhub

  • I totally missed this due to various stuff in my life, so only found out today.

    What a tragedy.

Weirdly I'm seeing this differently.  I see only an announcement to close the STORE, not the FREEBIE's so maybe I'm reading it all wrong but

Try open sharecg in a private window on your browser and you should end on a page with a black background and a cup of coffee with a message about ShareCG: click on the picture and you'll end on the link in the first post.

Looks like RenderHub bought it or something, as RenderHub is mentioned a lot. Either way it will be interesting since RenderHub is a big website.

Thank you, also to 3Diva and Squishy; every tip is useful.
Now one from me: at certain browser window widths some commands disappear from the RenderHub interface, so be sure to get it by resizing your browser window. Otherwise you'll lose some checkboxes, page numbers, stuff that makes the navigation easier.
I have noticed that creator Jibicoco is moving his Share CG freebies to the new Poser section. Thank you, Jibicoco, I hope a lot of other creators will do the same, at renderhub or elsewhere.

There is Renderhub and CG Trader that still has freebies. It's a shame about Sharecg though.

ShareCG was a great resource for sure. One of the saddest things for me about ShareCG closing were the freebies that were created by folks who are no longer with us. As long as their freebies were available, they were still part of the 3D world. Now, sadly, they are truly gone.

It is a real sadness that the ShareCG site has closed without having first migrated all of its content, Renderhub is a great place but I don't know if there is a place for content for example Victoria 4, Aiko 3, in ShareCG you could find more than something useful for these characters, even very useful tools could be found in ShareCG for example this year I found a very useful tool in ShareCG, "DAZ3D pose converter v1.2" but now I don't know if Renderhub allows sharing tools of this style for free. I hope that one day a site like ShareCG can be created, a small oasis where you can find a bit of everything
