it's three a.m. and i cannot recall how to alter or delete this background. Please help, thanks.

    If it is an HDRI in the Render Settings pane, Environment section, you can change Draw Dome from On to Off.

    thanks. Where is the command "draw dome" etc. to tur off?

    In Render Settings > Enironment.

    But if you haven't rendered, you need first to create it, Create > Environments Option
