Parenting Distorts object - SOLVED

I'm trying to parent some accessories to a character's hair, these have worked fine previously, but when I try with this new hairstyle they suddenly distort when parented. Parent In Place doesn't stop it, nor does parenting a null to the hair first and parenting the accessory to that.

Any idea how I can stop this from happening?

I'm not so sure but how did you parent it to the hair ? It seems to me a rigged result rather than parented.

And which hair product are you referring to ?

I parented it by using the right-click change parent option like always, and I am parenting it to the specific bone of the hair that it needs to follow, like always. The hair is the Wind Warrior hair for Genesis 8 Female.

The accessory is 3 objects with no rigging, just the beads parented to the ring.

I tried parenting two Props to the bone :lPigtail 03, I found no issue on my side ~~ I have no idea why they're twisted on your side, which is odd...

  • This at least helped me track down the problem, it's that I have the scaling altered on that section of the hair to make it fit.

Normally that's not a problem because the scaling that's already on the parent doesn't normally apply to things parented to it afterwards.

Ah....that's it. But scaling a rigged bone may not be a good idea in some cases. Morphing can be a better way.

  • Ah, I solved it!

Baking the joint rotations of the hair before parenting the accessories to it stops the previous scaling from being carried over.
