Is it possible to install 3rd party plugins in Ds Beta? I have a bunch but I haven't been able to install them: like Fluidos II, Gescon, Mesh Grabber, UltraScenery Accelerator. I have the path set in DIM, I uninstalled and reinstalled thinking that DIM would reinstall my plug-ins in both the general release and the beta, but it doesn't seem to do that despite having the paths for both the general release and beta set in DIM. Any ideas how to go about this? Or is it just not supported in beta?
You can just copy the related DLL files from the plugins folder of General Release to Public Build.
I actually tried that but it didn't work for Fluidos or Gescon. So I didn't even bother trying with the others because I need all my plug-ins to work. So I backed up everything for DS 4.16 and installed the 4.23 general release. No more beta for me. Its too much hassle. I'll just have to deal with the slower render times of 4.23 until I get a new GPU.
You have to copy other libraries too, not only the DLLs. They are in separate folders inside "Plugins" one and under Libs folder.
yes, I know, I copied all those too, I just couldn't get it to work in the beta. In any case its not an issue since I've been using the general release for a couple days, and no problems so far. I'd rather just deal with a single install anyway.
Did you enter their serial numbers (available in your account) in Daz Studio's Help/About Installed Plugins list, after copying the plugin's files and restarting Daz Studio? I don't own Fluidos, but I know Gescon needs a serial number.
I recall that they didn't even show up in the Beta when I looked under "help > about installed plugins..."
I copied all files in the file lists (see attached) and restarted Studio, and that's of course the first thing I looked for. I knew they needed serial numbers for activation but there was no way to activate them since I could not even see them.
And I appreciate you trying to help me with this, but I'm really done caring about it at this point, since 4.23 general release is working out just fine for me. And so I've moved on. No more beta worries. I'm pretty happy with 4.23 so far. Only thing I have a little problem with is Catalyzer crashing, but I think that is somewhat "normal", at least looking through other discussions about it, it seems too have been a problem for quite some time. So its something I just have to deal with.
Plugins will install for all currently installed versions of DAZ Studio on your system. It uses the path to the folder with the executable to install the necessary files, and register them with Studio. If you installed the Studio beta at a later date, you will need to re-install all of the plugins. No need to changed anything, just re-install them as you did before.
That's literally the first thing I tried though, if you read my first post on this subject above you would see that.
But no, it did not work in my case. My hunch now after thinking about this for a few days as to why it didn't work, is probably because 4.16 was installed via the standalone .exe and the beta was installed via DIM. (I didn't have a DIM installed version of 4.16 and no way to get one.) So I think even with reinstalling, for some reason, it would only reinstall the plug-ins for 4.16. But I don't know for sure. All I know is that it did not work when I reinistalled the plugins, hence, the reason for trying the method of copying all the dlls and support files.. And again I reiterate, I no longer care to keep beating this dead horse. The 4.23 general release and the new 572.60 Nivida drivers have been working flawlessy for me. So the beta is not of any concern to me anymore.
What?! You expect people to read the WHOLE thread?! That would take ... seconds! Maybe even a whole minute! Who has that kind of time?
Seriously, though, knee-jerk response. My bad. I know I get annoyed when users question something I know has been answered one message above theirs...
You can add the path for the 4.16 installation to DIM - go to Advanced Settings through the gear icon, then the Applications tab. You can then add a new application for your version of the Daz Studio General reelase and plug-ins will be install for that by DIM - though be careful not to overwrite your Daz branded plug-ins with the newer versions that DIM will offer to download when working online.
