Is it possible to save place on my library without loosing my add-ons?

Hi! I noticed that My Daz 3D Library folder takes 155Go on my computer (I guess I bought too much items...), so I wonder if there would be a way to save place without "loosing" the items that I downloaded... What would you recommand? Should I uninstall what I don't use a lot, and keep only the ones that I am actually using? Should I save some of them on an external disk? In this case, is it possible to access them from the external disk when I need them, or would I have to  bring them back on my computer when I would need them? There are already several items that I bought and I am hesitating to download because it will take a lot of place on my computer...

Thank you in advance for your advice!

  • Depending on your system, a second internal drive would be the more optimal solution, external and networked drives can add a bit of lag and increased load times.

i wouldn't recommend less than a 2TB drive, as that may give you enough head room for your studio library, as well as local backup of purchased assets(zip, exe, etc). .Depending on your purchasing habits, and how much you work in studio, that is.

I don't recommend a split solution,as that causes several problems for the user, but migrate your entire library over to the new drive, and delete the previous location.

Once you copy it over, you'll just need to change the install path for DIM, connect or central(depending on install method), and the path in CDM(content directory manager).

Lastly, get one more drive, so you can back your entire system up, including the new drive.

3-2-1 is your friend. and a heck of alot cheaper than data recovery is.

Yes, you can move your libraries to an external drive as long as it always has the same drive identifier (letter in Widows) assigned. Aside from Custom Actions Daz Studio doesn't care where the content directory is, but if you install through Install Manager it does record the absolute location of the files it places so you either need to reinstall using the new location or manually edit the manifests to update the path.
