Victoria 4 loading issue

I have not been able to access any of my earlier DS content which is Victoria and Michael, no point in asking me why this is the case, if I knew the answer I would perhaps be able to resolve the problem.

So some drastic action was required, which may be the end up being the answer but somehow I doubt it.

So I have copied my content library from my hard drive to an external drive which both gives me the opportunity to re install it from there and also to have a back up.

I have used DIM to remove the current version of DS from my machine, and all my installed content from my library.

From here I have re loaded DAZ Studio and the included content, which seems to have gone fine. That is DS opens and I am able to load G9 content that was included.

Next I selectively manually loaded all the basic V4 and Victoria4   content that I have in my library, Victoria 4 base and shapes ++ and V4 Elite body shapes. I can now load V4.2 and V4.2 to V3 but keep getting this error message when I load V4.2.

So somehow I am missing some component. I have followed the path for the missing file and it is not included in install file, which means it cannot be loaded. How can I overcome this problem.

Why am I doing this. Well because I have loads of Victoria content, characters, props and clothes, that I can use if I can get this content to work.

What does your content libraries look like, both Daz Studio and Poser?

Can you find the file in that path?

  • Did you install the PowerLoader components for Victoria 4 (does the thumbnail have a scroll icon in the top corner)? If not you will need to do so or, if you don't mind simply configuring everything to load at once, simply go to the Content Library isntalled to then Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ (the path from the error message) and run DzCreateExPFiles-v4. You need one of those steps to generate the script files that load all the data for the morph sets, without them you just get the bare-bones figure.

    Hi Richard

Yes i installed PowerLoader for V4 ( no idea about the scroll icon) and I have no idea how to run DzCreateExPFiles-v4, can you explain how I do this. I am using a Mac by the way

  • On a Mac you would want the .command file, but it may be that mac security updates will block that. Do you get a dialgue box when you load Victoria 4? If not, how about if you hold down the cmd key while double-clicking on its icon to load it?

OK i am back following an illness and a period of feeling the hell with this but am still faced with same issue. I have tried within my limited ability to follow the advice from Richard with no actual success but would still like to resolve this isue. I have a sneaky feeling that that something I am doing is the root of the problem but who knows? Thr first SS is one that TBH i have no clue how i got this because I was trying lots of things and gor really confused. The othersd are hopefully self explanatory and refalet to the questions felis posed. All SS are Poser based because the DS content works fine.

Anyway here screen shots that I have taken today for the attention of felis and Richard and indeed anyone else who feels like dipping into this puzzle.

FYI I am using a mac mini Apple M2 pro. 16gb. Mac OS Sequoia version 15.6

    Everything is up to date.

    Here hoping someone can help....

How about on disc? The support folder is /Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ/Victoria 4/with a large list of sub-folders for the various bones of the figure (Poser stores morphs per bone). Thatv is the sAME /Runtime/Libraries/!DAZ/ folder as I sent you to for the DzCreateExPFiles-v4.command file.

Gosh this gets complex. So following this path I have

    Runtime/Libraries/!Daz/Victoria4/

Then a folder named BODY not V4BODY as in your earlier reply

See the related SS please for examples

This is where you need to run the DzCreateExPFiles-v4 command, from the !DAZ folder - it will build that list of .pz2 files, which are essentially instructions to load all the morph expansions installed when it was  run. The PowerLoader tool in Daz Studio does the same job on the fly, and under user control, but it appears you are using neither and so the needed files do not exist.

I am really grateful to you Richard, your knowledge and expertise is a real help. I am still struggling to get this issue with V4 sorted despite feeling closer to a solution thanks to you. Each step I take seems to involve more complications, for example running DzCreateExPFiles-v4 command gets blocked by Mac because of security issues. To date nothing I try has resolved this extra issue...Which leads me to ponder the question of why this is necessary. On starting with Poser content I loaded the V4 and M4 from my content library via the Daz website, so one would have thought all the content I obtained would be good to go. Indeed the M4 base and power loader  once installled allows me to load M4 into DS with no issues whatsoever. As can be seen from this thread the case with V4 is that some part of the package fails to load properly if at all. Surely this cannot be correct. If one downloads content from Daz it should load without having to resort to trying to load parts of tht content package using Terminal. I am not exactly tech savvy, so this entire saga is a real effort for me and I am once again of the verge of giving up on thisPoser based content....

With the previous generation figures adding extra morphs (beyond a few for a character) required a whole new figure file, so it was not possible to mix morph sets without using an external editing tool on the figure files. Even where characters used the supplied morph slots they could end up competing for the same slot. The ExP system is an attempt to avoid these by allowing each expansion (character or morph set) to add its own sloys, but it does require that the list Poser/DS read be updated for each addition or removal. The batch/command file was how this was done initially for Poser, Daz Studio has the Power Loader tool which can do the building on loading so that the process is more configurable. Do you in fact have the Power Loader extensions installed (the base for the figure is the important one)? If you see a little scroll icon at top-left of the Victoria 4 thumbnail in DS but don't get the dialogue try holding down the cmd key while you double-click on the file to force it to show the UI.

I just about understand the explanations but have to say that the whole issue is nightmare for someone who does not have the smarts of people like Richard. I have spent a huge amount of time trying to resolve this issue. Also while I can install my entire content library using DIM the resulting mess of products is almost unusable. For example an item of clothing can have several components such as mats and poses and so on, and when loaded often these component end up in odd places. Its easier though time consuming to search for something, yet another nightmare, and doenload the file and install it manually. At least you can ensure all the constituent parts and the whole thing end up where you want them...

I am giivng up on my old poser content because I dont have the time to try and unravel this mess any longer...

Thanks to Richard who has tried to help me..
