How to fix errors in Smart Content in 4.9...and add new things?

I've just downloaded and installed 4.9 so I can give this Connect thingy a go and check it out. I've NEVER used Smart Content before - I always found it to be full of errors with things not showing where they should and things showing were they shouldn't. There are so many threads on 4.9 around and they are hundreds of pages long so I don't know where to find this information. If this has already been covered somewhere, please direct me to the post so I can check it out.
1. In Figures -> People, I have a few pieces of clothing in there. I suspect they shouldn't be there. HOW do I fix that? Is it the metadata? Or the categories? (these are DAZ items btw)
2. In Smart Content, the greyed out icons I am assuming mean they haven't been installed via Connect, regardless of if I have actually physically downloaded them via DIM already. Is that correct?
3. What is the little circle with arrowhead icon on the top right corner of all the pictures in Smart Content mean?
4. Non-daz products - how do I get them to show in Smart Content? Is it a metadata thing? And if so, is there a simple guide to creating metadata to make them show in Smart Content?
5. The Friday Freebie: Cozy Bed that is a Connect only product...I "purchased" it, but cannot find it ANYWHERE in Smart Content - neither in "all" or "installed" or "available". WHERE IS IT??

Comments
1. Not sure - it depends, to an extent, on the cause
2. No, iems isntalled via DIM and in the CMS will not be greyed out - that sounds more like an item that isn't in the CMS at all.
3. That's the available through Connect icon, for items that are not installed or are isntalled throiugh DIM.
4. Yes - you can categorise by drag-and-drop, you can make things Smart by having the wearer selected in the sceen then dragging the icon for the item into the right Smart Content category.
5. It should be in the products tab of Smart Content - try sorting by order date.
Jakiblue and I were chatting over in art studio, and what else is weirdly funny- for the exact same products (two of them) we have different icons showing. She is in 4.9 and I am in 4.8, her product has the main promo image, and I have a group of people in one, and three people in another. Strange!
First and foremost I'd like to point you to this tutorial from Herald of Fire. It explains all the basic steps you need to take in order to sort out your smart content folder (and with that all the meta data).
Depends heavily on the setup. Have you anything selected in the main area for example? In common you should be able to sort it out by changing the category. Just right click and select the option from the menu.
I think Richard is wrong here: this does mean that the product hasn't been installed through Daz Connect, however.. It can already be installed through DIM!
The best way to check is to right click on the item, then selecting "show in content library". If it shows its items there then you can be sure to be dealing with a possible re-install.
(Also see my last post in the thread)
See the tutorial I pointed to above. It'll take you a few hours (maybe more) to go over all your stuff but it's really worth it!
Well, this is exactly the reason why I think Daz Connect may have been released a little too early. I can understand the motivation and underlying ideas, but in my opinion the implementation leaves much to desire where user friendlyness comes to play.
Anyway: first of all make sure you're logged in. You can see as much using the dark button in the upper right corner of the smart contents pane. I know I'm stating the obvious: this is where I went wrong as well ;)
Now select 'Props' (main category), then don't wait for the items to show but click "Products" immediately. Now click on "available" in the bottom menu. Now you should see all the available (new) products through Daz Connect.
4.9 gets metadata through Connect (if you log in), so some products have updated images that aren't in the DIM versions.
Small update on my previous post: I stand corrected on some points (and when I'm wrong, I'm wrong and I have no problems admitting to that).
Richard is completely right: under normal circumstances your product pane should indeed list all your products without the arrow icon. If this icon does show then there is a possibility that the product is either a "Daz Connect only" product (only available through Daz Connect) or there is a little glitch in your product database (or something else which I'm now overlooking).
The situation I've shown above turned out to be not a normal one. As soon as I consolidated my database & reimported the meta data everything clicked into place. Of course the down side to this method is that I now need to re-configure some parts again (re-catagorize) but that's not that much of an issue.
Sorry if I caused any confusion.
I use daz 4.8 and the latest beta 4.9 on my main pc. I don't know what daz did but it did fry someting in my smart content in both 4.8 full and beta 4.9. I have found that even after reimporting metadata and resetting the content database stuff is still missing. I installed 4.9 full on my game pc to see if having 4.8 still on one pc was the issue it was not. I think connect is still too alpha to be released to public.
In figures clothing you have peices of clothing that have figures IN them. That is why they are in people. There is a person inside the clothing.
So if an icon is NOT greyed out, it's in colour, but it has that little circle with the arrow in it, that means it's a Connect item and you can install it via connect?
And the greyed out icons mean they are NOT Connect compatible?
Greyed out means they are not installed
No, if it's not greyed out but has the Connect logo it's a DIM install (or a manual isntall and you improted its metadata) and you can reisntall it with Connect (which will use the local files if theya re the same as the oens on the server). If it's greyed out that should mean it is not (as far as DS can tell) installed at all; if it has the Connect logo it can be installed via Connect.
I Created a Video Tutorial on that last week:

Hope this is helpful
I lost ebots for the thread and then couldn't find it again!!!!
@Renomista, I found your video tut just before you posted, thank you! Was very helpful in creating metadata for a set of G3 shoes that I wanted to show up in Smart Content :)
I am glad to see this... I was thinking of sending a message to Richard about this. I have a few items such as poses and clothes that are for G3M but only show up when G3F is selected or in quirky places like Utilities when no one is selected (they are simple poses). I was thinking do I submit a ticket, or mess around with the compatabilities (I'm terrible with that)?
