I Need help Installing DS 4.9 and DIM to E: instead of C: on new computer

I have my new computer all ready to go and want to install DS 4.9 and Dim and all my content to the E: drive (2T) instead of my C which is 500 G SSD.  Can DIM be installed to a different drive other than C: because obviously to install Studio with DIm I have to install it first.  I hae tried various searching methods but haven't found what I am looking for so if anyone can help or point me to a already established discussion on this topic I would appreciate it.

Is your system set up so that Program FIles and Public Documents default to E:?

I don't recall if the DIM installer prompts for an install location or uses the system default, but after installing DIM do the following BEFORE installing anything with it:

Click the gear (settings) icon in the upper right corner.

On the Downloads tab, change the Downloads location to your desired location on E:

On the Installation tab, the top 2 lines are the location to install software, so that them to locations on E:

On the Installation tab, click the + in the lower left to add a content install path, and be sure to change the Current path to the new location.

Mike I now have Windows 10 on this machine and what I did when I went to install DIM is when it showed the default location in C:/Program File etc I just changed the C to E and that worked so far.  I started DIM up and it shows all my downloads and now I am trying to figure out how to set it so that Studio 4.9 will download and  install to E also.  How do I set up so Pragram Files and Public Documents default to E automatically? ( Windows 10 is so much more confusing than Windows 7) On the installation tab in DIM do I just set the 64 bit path to E:/Program Files and the 32 bit to E:/Program Files (x86) and that would work?

Edit to add: On the downloads tab I changed that to E:/Daz Downloads but on the installation tab do I also have to change under Path from C:/Users/Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library to E:/My Library ?

Yes, that's right.  The Downloads location is for the zips that DIM downloads, the content install location is where they are installed.  Make sure in DS you go to Edit > Preferences > Content Librry > Content Directory Manager and change the locations for "Daz Studio Formats", "Poser Formats", and "Daz Connect".

Ok so I have Studio 4.9 installed but when I start it up I get an error saying a valid PostgreSql connection could not be established...now what do I do to fix that?

Edit: Can I change the connect library path to the same as Studio and Poser formats which is just E:/My Library or does it have to be E:/My Daz Connect Library?

I did now, I thought it installed with Studio, and the error is gone when I start up. Is there other products that come with 4.9 that don't install automatically like plugins that I have to find and install or just the PSQL and the starter essentials pkgs and subsurface shader base?

Default Lights and Shaders, and GoZ/3D Bridge if you have ZBrush/Photoshop

Is it also necessary to install the poserCF files for the starter essentials? they are showing up in DIM even tho I have poser unchecked in settings

No sorry I do now tho...one more question for tonite I was asking above about how to change the cloud directory fro Daz Connect from C to E drive...can it be the same as studio and poser or is there a different format for it?  Thanks for all your help Mike, I appreciate it very much, you are certainly making my 4.9 experience a good one so far. I want to give it a really good try with all the new features,so far so good

To: Kharma & Mike Having just installed 4.9 to my new computer straight off DIM, my jaw dropped when I saw what for me was an undecipherable PostgreSQL error message. I did not even have time for the rage to really settle in and seethe before I came across this post. Now 4.9 is happily ensconced in my new souped up machine and my content almost painlessly migrated to a second internal hard drive. Via a flash drive no less !! I don't know if you guys will ever see this, but thank you Kharma for blazing my path and thank you, Mike for shining a light on it. :-)

You still don't need Program Files defaulted to anything different to put both Studio and content on different drives. My C drive is a smallish SSD so all apps go on D. All content goes on a different drive. All you really need in Studio is to give Content Directory Manager the correct path to the content. All DIM needs is the correct path for the Studio install, and the correct path for the content (must match what is in the Content Directory Manager. You also need to specific the download location

Another gotcha, especially if your C: drive is on the small side — unless you tell it not to, DIM will keep the downloaded installers after unpacking their contents and tucking them away into your content folder. That's caught out some people in the past, who changed their content location to another drive but still found their C: free space vanishing in great big chunks.
