Hey guys and gals,
She has made an account but we actually are both stumped on one part of the registration; it has a spot for her username but when she wants a pseudonym, it states its not a valid email address. We understand that, but then how or where does she put a name that she will appear as, for example here in the forums and such? I can't help her because I just don't remember and even then mine was screwed up a bit at first, but daz, on their own, modified mine which actually to what I wanted it to be initially anyway (they must be friggin psychics or something), so it all worked out in the end. Anyway, she'd appreciate the help.

If she already has an account, have her log in and click the little blue man in the upper right and go to My Account. From there it should be on the main Account Info tab. Click Edit in the box where it has her name/email and there should be a Username option. Keep in mind, the box for the username is ABOVE the "*Username" verbage. She could be trying to change the box UNDER it, which is for the email.
See the attachment. Red circle is for the Username, and Blue for the email. Why the order changes as far as text on the top to text on the bottom I have no idea.
ok, I see. We were thinking that the username box that keeps asking for her email address would end up being her avatar/pseudonym name, I thought that happened to me at first but I just couldn't remember anymore. She does have it set right then. Thanks so much, from both of us.
The username as far as the store software is concerned is the eamail. So when first filling in the form, it does indeed need the email address. The default forum username is generated from the first part of the email addy, automagically, usually with a random selection of numbers and letters after it,
This can then be edited.
Thanks Chohole for that. She's all taken care of now. I never knew that a member could edit their name. When I joined, I thought I had randomly read a post where someone stated the op had to have a moderator or such change it. Now I also understand a bit better, though I should never need to modify my stuff as it's set to how I want it of course. Thanks again Chohole.
The previous forum it was only certain admins who could change user names. Now on this new software that is firmly back in the hands of the member. The older forum was merged with the new one, so all details came over including prior post counts, but it did confuse some user names, as the Gallery is on the same software as the store, and if someone already had a Gallery set up, then the Gallery name was used, otherwise the auto generated name appeared, until edited by the user.
That makes sense, it also explains to sum extent what went on with my username when I first joined. I wanted my user name as it appears now, but while I really cannot remember the details, it seem s as though it wouldn't let me. In fact what happened was it listed me as HorusRa3523, the numbers being part of one of my old email addys back from 2000. One day it seems, back around when 4.8 came out I came on the site here and daz had taken the numbers off (which as said is how I originally wanted it), heck, it put a big smile on my face and made me wonder how they knew to do that. Anyway, it finally was the way I would have intended it....and the rest is history.
