I can answer that, at least for me. First, the default has been fine for me. The grey is familiar and inoffensive. The yellow is very yellow, but it works and there's nothing I want so much more that it's worth it to bother about. So I leave it Occasionally, I may accidentally change something, and then some items change settings too. Then I have to change them back, or at least change them to something that's ok. Beyond that, custom settings can get lost or reset. Then I have to remember how to change them back to the custom version. It's a bother, and I'd rather not. TL;DR: LAZINESS! BTW: Happy New Year, my friend!
Fair point, I'm admittedly pretty anal about customisation as I bristle when encountering default settings, I remember my first ever PC the first thing I did when I got it home was to spend hours meticulously customising and configuring as much as I could!!
And a very joyous and prosperous new year for you too!
it makes no difference to legibility of the "faded" parameters, no matter what colours one chooses those always blend into the background and rarely highlight if moused over
Yeah, you have a point, I never really thought about that, thanks for the info!
May you, and your magnificent cats have an incredibly joyous new year!!
Hmmmm .... if you read the last statement in my original post, you'll note that I have attemted to modify it myself. As Wendy noted (see below), no matter what you do, the faded parameters are always low contrast ... no matter how you edit them. Hopefully this is better in the new beta.
I fully admit that I did not, I just skimmed your post due to laziness, so that's on me... But yes, one thing's for certain, Daz Studio's micro script does get tiring after a while...
Enjoy your new year, and may your next one always outshine the last!
I don't customize my interface much because I just don't care. The most I've done to customize my DS interface was to close all the panes on the lower right side of the screen beside parameters, surfaces and cameras (and I could probably do without cameras as well). Hell, I loaded a product recently that turned my viewport black, and I haven't even bothered figuring out how to fix it back.
LOL! You, my friend, are my polar opposite! That's a fair point, as we have equal, yet opposite perspectives on DS!
May you enjoy the new year, and whatever it brings!
.... There was a AAA game that launched with load times of 10 minutes. Gamers complained. They rewrote their allocator, patched and anecdotal feedback from customers was that loading was down to 30 seconds.
That's just the sort of thing that is needed here. I must admit I have always been amazed at the memory allocation speed of the vanilla C functions compared to C++ objects. Sometimes it makes you wonder if C++ is a sensible language to pursue.
Have you tried the current Public Build (beta) - that has a higher contrast colour scheme for the Darkside style.
Hmm, I don't have a "Darkside" option in the beta (4.23.1.8). There is an option listed as "Full Service (Beta)", it might be a bit better??? but it's still difficult to see (plus it will take some work to get it shaped into something framiliar). If that's is the one you were thinking of, let me know and I'll give it a real test. Any improvement would be greatly appreciated.
That is a layout (Window>Workspace>Select Layout) which controls what elements appear where. You want a style (Window>Style>Select Style) which controls the colours and shapes of UI elements (and you can also customise the colours through the commands in the same menu).
Keeping track of assets. I used to spend hours filling out the Categories for all the assets I collected, and eventually gave up because it was just too much. Now I find my assets through the daz deals 'show owned' feature. But I miss how easy it was to find things when I had my categories working.

Well DUH! I was already using the Darkside style, but there is a "Midnight" option that is higher contrast. I changed the green to a higher contrast yellow, and in general it is easier to read now. Thanks!!!!!
I use Daz Studio on a weekly basis, at the very least. I don't buy new content as often as I used to. Most of what is made isn't appealing to me, and the route of buying things I don't really want in support of PA's hasn't really proven to benefit me in the long run. I don't feel G9 is suited to male characters, and male content I think that is well done is always in short supply.
I'll be having shoulder surgery on my right arm in a month, and I'm right handed. Recovery time is going to be lengthy, and I'll be prioritizing my job for fumbling with my left hand.
Maybe the break will do me some good. My Daz+ runs out in June, anyway.
Lousy lip sync. The old Mimic was really not bad, but is no longer supported. I use a LOT of Daz assets (exported to iClone & C4D), but because I do character animation, I really need good lip sync to sell it. I would probably still be using Daz for animation, but lack of good lip sync drove me to iClone.

To be fair technically there are third party lipsinc
option such as Face mojo (Iphone required)
and Anilip 2.
However even beyond having no 64 bit native lipsinc tool, Daz studio does not have a proper human IK system for foot & hand contact restraining during animation
and like all of the other third party plugins, the already outdated animate 2 system will become non functional Daz studio 5.
The thing that has me swearing at Studio most often is the scene tab. When I click the eye to toggle visibility on an item, I want to toggle visibility on that item. I do not want to scroll to a random item in the list, toggle visibility on that, and select every item between that one and the one I was trying to click on.

Hold CTRL while clicking the eye to toggle the entire hierarchy.

Ha! I assumed that just happened to me. Yes, it's very annoying.

The issue is when I have multiple items and I want to turn off the one showing and turn on one of the others, not an entire hierarchy. For example, when setting up characters I might put on five or six pair of pants to test; I might have the first set visible and the rest hidden and when I turn the first one off then go to click the fifth set to unhide it, it selects everything between the first and fifth instead of just selecting the fifth.
It's worse when I have a long list of items and I have, say, the hip selected, then try to select something ten or twenty items down the hierarchy and everything from hip to the fifteenth item is selected, even though I'm not holding down the shift or command key.

Not sure, but it seems to happen if one very slightly moves the mouse while clicking on the "Eye".

Obviously there's no way to know for sure without looking at/debugging the code, but it seems likely that this has to do with DS currently being largely single threaded. In the case of DS, the main thread (generally tasked with mouse I/O among other things) is also tasked with other heavy lifting. Resolving this is one of my biggest hopes for DS5 (or whatever it ends up being called if it is ever released).
Single most annoying? This is an easy answer for me. I'm so busy with daily life that I can't often sit down with the program anymore. So, I never maintain all the necessary knowledge of how to use it.
I also haven't been seeing or buying many new props or characters that interest me anymore. They would have driven me to try them out more quickly. So it's gotten worse now, I'm neither learning nor re-learning much of anything.
Not a serious issue really. It's just frustrating. Time is short. Life is short. It's a shame to waste it.
[What's the single most annoying issue about Daz prevent you from using it more often?] For me it's definately the speed.
Even before my library gets too big, doing anything in Daz just became TOOOOO SLOW,
just load up a G9 character template? 15 secs-20 secs
a morphed character with hairs, cloth and fancy mats? 30 secs - 1 min,
with muliply characters and enviorment? 2-5 mins.
animation? 1-5 hours for a 60 secs video at 1080P, forget about it
I have one of the fastest PC money can buy but still can't get used to how slow everything in Daz is, there are times I loaded a character with que time so long and I ended up doing something else and then completely forogt what I was working on.
I love Daz but if the speed doesn't gets faster in furture updates, I'd lose my motivation
It's the random crashes. I'm testing the limit of what i can do with my 3090 Ti. I made a render with 5 people. The render was doing its thing for 20 minutes. while waiting, im watching YouTube. I got a call, took my eyes out for a few minutes and when i went to go check, Daz was closed, the render never got saved, and im re-rendering the scene. There's been time in the past where im zoned in and Daz crashes and i lose over 2-3 hours of posing, scene set ups, custom morphs, et. Its the only reason why i keep coming back is because i want to learn the progrram.
I have a thread here that was along the same lines, I had BSOD and DS crashes about 70% into each render. Turns out that turning off the CPU access to the render engine worked fine for my needs. Below is the settings for what to turn off.
Turning off CPU rendering in DAZ Studio settings.jpg
Try having a Mac and never knowing what new OS or DAZ update will create a new crash type. When I try to save DB Maintenance work, multiple crashes for a week or so, then no crashes. New OS update last night, will see what happens today.
But what aggravates me to no end, new products, besides older ones without thumbnails or missing metadata. And not being able to fix metadata where it is wholesale dumped into one category instead of someone taking the time to place the props/sets into their respective places. Even when I do the work I am still left with the dumped category messing up my Smart Content. Thumbnails are easy, but it is still sloppy to release a product today without a .jpg or .png.

Awhile ago I got a new computer. I loaded and rendered everything I owned.
Everything loaded and rendered quickly. Whenever I quit DAZ Studio it ended as expected.
That might have been more than a year ago.

Every episodes adds depth and context to story. More than the sum of the part indeed! This series continues to impress.

For me, it is how memory intensive genesus 9 is, as well as how difficult it is to render the type of male character I wnt with the unisex base.
