Any point to an HD product without the base?

I grabbed the V6/M6 HD combo for my free one, and while I have V6, I don't have M6 yet. Is there any point to even downloading it? Would I be able to use the morphs? I'm guessing the textures would be a no-go as I seem to recall the base is needed to get the UV. (I do have a male on Gen2, for whatever reason I had at the time, I did get the Gianni 6 starter, and while the hd morphs aren't his, maybe they could be dialed in carefully to add detail?)

  • I don't think you need M6. As you say, I'm pretty sure these will work on the base or another G2M character. I do have M6 though. I've used the M6 HD morphs on a quite a few renders based on other G2M characters that don't have any M6 in them and I've been happy with the results. I'm doing the same with M7 HD morphs on G3M.

I presume they won't fully match the lower definition details on another character, but I've not found that much of a problem. You can always dial them up partially if the full strength looks a bit much. I like the HD morphs as they do add that definite detail that to my eye really adds to the realism.

Well, I keep trying to find a use for them, but it seems I'm never rendering a big enough image or my camera isn't closeup enough to the character to see that detail in the final render. Doesn't help that so many of the HD sets are for 'realism' as that's the kinda thing the brain fills in for itself when looking at an image lacking it. I'd like to see more sets where it's utilized to create special effects. Just a pity the creature creator HD wasn't an option, that's a set I see good usage of the HD morphs in, creating details that our minds don't naturally try to fill in. At least the M6/V6 combo was a great value, not only HD morphs but textures as well.

The extra skin that you get with the M6 HD pack (which is a pretty good skin btw) uses M6 UV's, so will look bad applied to G2M if you do not have M6. The HD morphs however will work with any character, but bear in mind that they were created to look optimal on M6.
