Why are sales always broken?

Just curious, I'd say 75% of the sales I try to buy in are hosed on this site. Buy two of these and get all these PA items for 50% off! Yay, oh wait, no discount is being applied. Take it all out of the cart...again.  Over the past couple of weekend I've personally bailed on probably $200 worth of stuff because the offered sale prices just didn't apply. 

Multiply that over tens of buyers and the result is probably some substantial lost sales for DAZ and the PAs.  This isn't new, messed up sales have been a big problem for a long time. Threads open up about it, eventually some fix might get applied or people ttry to check out a bunch of times and one of them takes, whatever. It's a mess and it just keeps happening.  Why?

  • Are you trying around Daz midnight? I tend to shop somewhat later in the day and although I haven't taken advantage of every promotion those I have used have worked.

    DAZ midnight is 2am for me so no, not that late. Typically in the evening, 9-11pm EST or in the afternoon.  Often on a weekend which is when I have some free time.  Of course when it doesnt work there is no help forthcoming on a weekend.  Typically it will advtise something like "Buy two of these and get any of this other stuff for x% off but only if its all in the cart at same time" or something to that effect.  Last week there was a big "49% off" sale which had a link to the sale items, when I first went there the discount was there but after I decided to buy I went back and none of them actually had any percent off, much less 49% anymore.  Remove, reload, remove reload, remove and give up. Sorry artists, no sale.

    Last night it was the path to beauty thing and the IRAY weekend thing. Neither one was working. I picked up a couple of new items at the standard 30% off but couldnt get any of the featured artists stores to give me any discount other than the 30% for new items.  I was bummed because there were a couple of older items by IH Kang that I wanted but no sale price, no sale.

  • If you post a forum thread, asssuming there isn't one already, we can generally confirm the issue and if there's a problem send an email to Daz with a reasonable chance it will be picked up.

    Well, there is an easy solution. Stop making those overcomplicated sales, with stacking and multiplying percentages all over the place and odd items you have to buy or own. Instead offer something like "Everything on this page 50 % off no strings attached." Easy to code, easy to understand, easy to sell.

    And please solve the problem with an end date for a sale!

    It might also help to accasionally double-check the new sales. It's like many people take a look over an e-mail they wrote before hitting send.

    It know, it's a weird concept.

     

    But OK, assuming that problems with Magneto sales can only be identified and fixed after the actual sale becomes active: Maybe the general time for changing sales could be relocated to 'when DAZ people are actually in office'.

  • This might be a strange thought, but what if the entire site is cached, including the store? Maybe the caching system needs time to update the various remote locations and sometimes people that see that it looks like it's changed are getting the old stuff until it actually catches up.

    Again from today.  Buy one featured new release, get stuff from featured vendors for 40% off (excluding new releases and PC+ items) but they  have to be in cart at same time.  Except there is no discount on the vendor item.

    It could well be that the Cloudfront, or Cloudflirt, or the whatever it is caching system is causing some problems, but, honestly, I think the sales don't work properly because the rules base needed to define them becomes so complex that it's not possible to forsee every possible combination and outcome. You couldn't even test it beforehand because to do so would require so much manpower that the sale would never go live. Easier to let the customer try it and then raise a ticket if it fails.

    That's just my opinion anyway. Speculation, I know, but seems to be borne out by many people's experiences.

    Richard. you are right this one is new.  I did it quickly as a check to see if the sale was working and was sloppy.  blush

    That said, for the Path to Beauty sale I was trying to use some items which I just reconfimed were NOT new and there was no sale price for them.  I just tried to reproduce that using the all of the same items and today it works, on Saturday it did not.  I also tried the Iray sale over the weekend and it wasn't working right either. Since I couldn't make either sale work I ended up buying one item from each "buy two new items..." so sale prices on vendor stores didn't come into play in the end. But to my point that it's sort of random whether it will work or not.

    I'm just venting, I have a store credit I really want to work through since I'm sticking with Studio 4.8 and don't want to get stuck with store credits that I can't use because everything new is 4.9 only. It's frustrating when you see a sale and think "good, I can use up some of that credit" and it doesn't work.

  • I doubt if all new reeleases will switch to encrypted, Connect-only overnight. But if you find a sale isn't working, as I said above we can often send an email to Daz and get the issue fixed even at weekends (obviously not something we can guarantee, but it works far more often than not).
