Content Directory Manager Issue

Is anyone else getting an issue trying to get their Content Directory Manager to open properly? I'm trying to get everything DAZ 3D on my external hard drive with DAZ Connect and I don't want anything going on in my main system's folders (too much memory consumption).

Just making sure if it's other people or just me from trying to install everything differently...

I'm not having any trouble with content going where it's supposed to. I have My DAZ Connect Library on the same external drive as My Library, and D/S is pointed to them.  I'm wondering what all the exclamation points are in the middle of the product icons in Smart Content. For example, in the Genesis Starter Essentials, a few of the icons have images, but the vast majority only have an exclamation point. Also, do I have to reinstall all of the products whose icons are grayscale rather than color? That would be a LOT of reinstalling to do.

Yeah, I get those, but I know how to correct that because I'm fully adopting the DAZ Connect sytem. Maybe it's another 4.9 hicup?

From my own observation it appears Daz Connect can only have one install path defined in the Content Directory Manager.  That makes sense as it needs everything installed into one directory in order to manage the content.

To change your Daz Connect install folder, in the Content Directory Manager, expand the Daz Connect Data library type, exposing the current defined path, select it, right click and select Edit Base Directory and change it to your external drive.

I can't even get the Content Directory Manager window to open. That's the problem.

Edit>Preferences, click on the Content Library tab then click on the Content Directory Manager button won't open the Content Directory Manager screen?   I would file a problem report.

I reimported my metadata, and most of my products are showing. A good number aren't, but show if I click on 'Available' at the bottom of the tab. I've selected a bunch and have them installing now. We'll see how it goes.

More on this: It seems that 4.9 is only seeing My DAZ Connect Library, and not My Library. Do I have to move all my content to the newer folder? It sure seems like a lot of time wasted not actually using Studio to do any art.

I don't understand what's going on with 4.9. I just tried loading a scene I had created with 4.8, and it's telling me that several files are missing, but I can select them and install them. But they're already in My Library. This is getting more frustrating by the minute.

  • DS should not see a different set of content libraries from 4.8. Please go to Edit>preferences, switch to the Content Library tab in the dialogue, and click the Content Directory manager button. Expand the DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats branches for the current set, take a screen shot and post it here.

Ok, here's the screen shot. What's weird is that some products are showing, some aren't. Even with morphs, some third-party morphs are showing, others aren't. Maybe I've just got Studio pointing to the wrong folders.

Your Daz Connect Library listing seems incorrect, I don't think it should include /Data at the end.  Can you give the full path to a file which DS is reporting as missing?

These aren't the only files missing, but this screenshot should be helpful. I checked, and the first file is located in C/Users/Scott/My Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 2/Female/Morphs/D3D Gen X. This isn't where Studio is looking, in the screen grab, but it's also not where it's supposed to be. I have Studio pointing to R: My Library. This file isn't there, either.

    How are you installing?

I use DIM for the things that show up in it. I've used DAZ Connect for the connect-only items. What should the path be for DAZ Connect? It may be that I just need to change that to get things working right.

For the Daz Connect path you just need to remove the /Data at the end.

ETA:  If you've installed things using that path, you'll find a Data folder inside that Data folder which needs to be moved up one level.

I've removed the Connect folder from the C drive and placed a My DAZ Connect folder on the R drive. That seems to be fine. Some of my third-party morphs aren't showing up on the Shaping tab, but I'll reinstall them.

Are you sure they showed up on the Shaping tab before the upgrade?

Okay, update! I have everything figured out on my end. It was a matter of an AppLocal issue. Though, with riftwitch's similar issue, I won't call it solved just yet.

Yes. Off the top of my head, Dariofish's HFS Shapes for Genesis from Rendo aren't showing in  the Shaping tab when a Genesis figure is selected. They were there before the upgrade. Some of his other morphs are showing, but those aren't.I haven't had time to check what else might not be showing.

    Ok, there goes that idea.

But, I did notice that on some of Dario's morphs the card icon is too big.  I wonder if 4.9 is enforcing tighter limits...

I've been away from my computer for a while, but today I did a little poking around, and the missing morphs (at least the ones that I'm aware of) were truly missing from My Library. I reinstalled them, and they're showing up in the Shaping tab now. I'm not sure why they disappeared after installing 4.9. I'm going to go over my purchases from the other sites, and see what else needs to be reinstalled, but it looks like I've found a solution to my morph problem. I still have to install a lot of DAZ content that had been installed before, but I can do that as I have the time.

  • Slight thread necromancy here, but it might be related. About a week ago, I used the TOA Amblyn for Genesis 2 in a render. Trying to use it today, and D|S is telling me it isn't there - I'm just getting the exclamation point in a frame. I've installed a new character in the meantime, but moved nothing. (Literally the only thing I've done other than do renders is installed the Dublin character. No mucking with the CMS at all. Why would an install of a G3F character remove some G2F files? (I'm not saying it did, but that's the only real change made to the system in between uses of that outfit.)

Are you trying to load from Smart Content or Content Library? The Smart Content (which, unfortunately, isn't always) is a database view, not an actual file view, so if something went wrong in the database, an attempt to load something into your scene would look for the files in the wrong place.

How are you installing, using DIM or Connect?

  • RCDescheneRCDeschene Posts: 2,816

Actually, great timing with the necromancy! I've noticed something, myself. I just got my new PC and decided to to do a fresh install of everything Studio-related and realized that all the Gen 4 bases are not included in Daz Connect. I see them appearing in my Product Library and Install Manager, so what's up with that? Is anyone else getting this?

It is do to the ExP morph system that they use.  It requires that all morphs be installed to the same Runtime library  folder that the figures are installed to.  Connect installs each product to its own sub-fold of the "Cloud" folder so ExP won't work.  The Idea of being able to install from inside Studio is nice but the Connect approach is a complete failure IM(not so)HO.
