There are known compatibility issues with Postgresql and Windows 10 as well as comptability issues with lots of other software (but Daz still insists on using buggy Postgresql). No problem I just used the old fashioned Valentina CMS system and everything was fine. Fine until I upgraded to 4.9 that is. It would seem 4.9 is incompatible with the Valentina CMS and Postrgresql is incompatable with my configuration of Windows 10.

So thanks a lot Daz. Now I have absolutely no content management.

I do not recommend anyone upgrade to 4.9 if they have had problems with Postgresql (a known buggy app) unless you never use smart content.

ZA , yes there is a known conflict between it and PostGre, and it is ZA's fault not Daz.   Most people are not reporting any other conflicts when using Win 10, so if you are having problem, can you please file a ticket, so they can check it out.    Thanks

I am on Windows 10 and I have not had any issues with the Postgre SQL. I have been running it since it was made available.

First time i ran into an issue was with the release version of 4.9 and I understand I am not alone.

There is no conflict between Postgre SQL and Windows 10, specifically, that I am aware of.

I've filed a ticket. Searching Postgresql shows the software has problems with far more applications than just ZoneAlarm (which I don't use).

    Ditto.

I have had absolutely no issues with the DAZ CMS (whether PostGreSQL or Valentina) since I upgraded to Windows 10.  And Smart Content is my go-to source for adding content to my scenes.

Maybe I've just been lucky (but I kind of doubt it).

I've got AVG, and didn't have any problems. Although, I do find AVG "fussy" over what programs I run from time-to-time. Although, these days, it's a miracle if AVG appears on Start Up :/

I just realized I forgot to export all my meta data when I upgraded to 4.9 so it's probably all lost for good now.

I have Windows 10, and I updated to 4.9.  The only issue I had is a hard freeze, after a long IRay render.

No other issues though, that I know of.

    Won't 4.9 re-import it for you?

  • ghastlycomicghastlycomic Posts: 2,531

Nope. Neither Valentina nor Postcrap is working.

  • I am having no issues with my DAZ version 4.9 and Windows 10 professional. I am running avast a/v and it causes no issues. Is your Windows 10 the home version and/or is it an upgrade and not a full install? If so, maybe that is some of the reasons you are having trouble. I have all sorts of different programs running on my PC and they all work together with DAZ 4.9 just fine.

I'm running DS 4.9 with postgresql and Windows 10 and I'm not seeing any problems either.

Yep, running 10 and no issues for me Postgre SQL,

Side note does anyone else read SQL and have their brains fill in some letters and read it as Squirrel. I've totally been calling it postgrad squirrel in my head

Well I got Postgresql working but all my meta data appears to be lost. God dammit Daz!

It took me 3 days to get it all set up last time it disappeared. I thought Postgresql was supposed to be more reliable, not less.

If you were previously running postgres then 4.9 only added tables, the data for 4.8, Carrara and DIM still live in the old tables and have database triggers to push the new data over to the optimized tables in 4.9.

I quess I spoke too soon. I'm getting the no Postgresql connection error again. Remind me again why 4.9's new content management is supposed to be better again. angry

I got Postgresql running again. For now. This is the first time I've had Postgresql running. It never ran on my Windows 7 computer because I used ZoneAlarm and I was never able to get it to run on my Windows 10 system. Before this I was running Valentina. It took me 3 days to manually organize all my assets when I got this new laptop. I'm not looking forward to having to do all this work all over again just because Daz has never figured out how to make a content management system that isn't fully and thoroughly hald assed.

So it seems DS4.9 makes a lot trouble. I will stay at DS4.8

  • GLWoodardGLWoodard Posts: 3,335

I'm running 10 and didn't have issues the first couple of times, however, this morning, I went to start DAZ, and suddenly it won't connect, so I figured a software issue somewhere, however, I uninstalled and tried to reinstall, installation is failing, over and over again, even if I turn off my anti virus temporarily, it simply won't reinstall! DS4.9 is great, and works well with Win10, as DS4.8 did as well, the only piece of content that I purchased that is only available through the Postre whatever its called, won't show up, even though I had installed it, found it, got it working, now it seems to be gone, I'm not happy about that at all, since thats money out of my pocket!

You are looking at this in entirely the wrong way... You are looking at it like you lost all your Meta Data... Or worse yet, DAZ caused you to lose all your data... You are not seeing the bigger picture...

DAZ is giving you the opportunity to develop important new problem solving skills and harness your ability to master self control like a Jedi... Tell me have you thrown your computer out the window yet? I think not... Have you snapped and run amok with a chainsaw? Perhaps... you might not have mentioned it for obvious reasons, but it's important you know that Ivory Soap and warm water are very good at removing fresh blood from your clothes if you wash them quickly.  So that's three things you may not have had the opportunity to understand if it were not for DS 4.9.

I think you also fail to see a bigger and far, far more fuzzier picture... Your Meta Data may seem gone, but it has crossed a threshold into an existence far greater and all encompassing than being on your measly computer hard drive... By striking it down, DAZ has made it more powerful then they could ever imagine... It is up to you to learn to use that power.

Embrace DS 4.9 and together you can rule the galaxy!

Or at least a small portion of the insanity ward at the local asylum for the technologically deranged.

Yes, but sadly you have not benefited from the loss of your meta data as others have... And you also run the risk of not gaining the self control you could have otherwise... In the long run, if you run amok with a flamethrower, who will truly not have had any issues?

Running Windows 10 x64 with AVG and DS 4.9. The only problem I am having is that I can't write notes or tags to anything in my library. I posted in the Nuts an Bolts as well as putting in a ticket later, but I haven't heard back on it yet.

The Postgresql seems to be running now, I'm no longer getting the "Daz Studio needs a Postgresql connection". I don't really know how I fixed it though. I uninstalled Valentina, installed Postgresql. Still got the "needs a connection" error. Uninstalled Postgresql and reinstalled Valentina. Still got the same error. Uninstalled Valentina and reinstalled Postgresql and for the first time ever Postgresql worked.... until I went to reboot Daz Studio and then I got the "needs a connection error" again. So I uninstalled Postgresql, then reinstalled Valentina then uninstalled Valentina and reinstalled Postgresql again and now (knock on woodtexture.png) Postgresql is working.

All I can figure is something that needed to be uninstalled or installed was not getting what it needed to be and I just hammered through and eventually it got either installed or uninstalled and now it's working. I've rebooted my computer and Postgresql is still working so here's hoping that's the problem.

The other way to interpret it is insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results so therefore Daz Studio is software for the insane.

I've lost all the metadata for my own creations, the stuff from Daz is still intact though and the files I made are still intact, just need to be added to the database again. I wish Daz would add things to the database automatically when you catagorize them since if I catagorize something as wardrobe/shoes it only makes sense I'd also want it to fall under wardrobe/shoes in the database. It's annoying to have to catagorize things once in the content library and then catagorize them again the same to get them to show up in the Smart Content library.

Oh well. I'm so sick of Daz and databases that I think I'm just going to take a break from this software for awhile.

Wasn't there a post gray squirrel for valentina users? Some kind of bridge or converter thing I seem to remember seeing in DIM.

I have squirrels and valentines running amok on my PC

I only downloaded the beta squirrel and cms from valentina convertor so presumably my DS4.7 and Carrara 8.5 earlier postgre not compatible build still using valentina and working and DS4.9 public build + beta using the squirrel.

no idea really but it all works

Yeah, I hear you... This encryption thing has got me bummed out... I was so jazzed about IRay, but this killed it.... I'm just gonna focus on 3D Coat for a while and try and forget about making models that work with DAZ Studio.
