I don't do many anime characters so I probably wouldn't run into that problem. I thought it might be the cartoonized product but asked to be sure.
It's definitely Cartoonized. 1-Click Anime is my preffered product, but if you need it for Genesis 8, then Cartoonized would be a better option. Problem being there's a separate version for male and female, while the G9 version works for both. I did a showcase of how 1-Click Anime works and it's a great product, here in the Let's appreciate/discuss today's new releases thread.
That was it. Cartoonized. I got a TON of use out of the G8 versions of that. Fantastic product. Can't say enough good things about it.
I was speaking to my flatmate and noticed he was watching his DVD of 'Asteroid City' by Wes Anderson, c. 2023 on his computer. I realized it bore a resemblance to Filatoon/Filament, without the black lines, and seemed to be a toon background with human actors, who have been changed to a toonish look, and no one was casting a shadow. I thought I would bring it to your attention in this thread as it seems like a version of what you all are working on.
Another go-around with filatoon. Used Face Transfer to create a morph and then used 1-click Anime and Stylized Skinny Girl to shape it. This time decided to experiment with not applying the filatoon skin shader but used Toon for Mira and blended it with the face transfer generated MATs using the surfaces base color image selection menu's built in layer image editor. Used Oso's Filatoon Tools to add details to the face. For the hair I just used the general Filatoon Basic Shader and for the clothes used Kindredarts Filatoon shaders for some of the cloth and metal but left the leather as loaded. I used filatoon skies for background. Played around with filament/environment settings and Presto got something I quite like. I prefer less anime toons and I think this is a step in that direction.
Just started playing with the Filament renders and Filatoon I love the speed of the renders ,I've been a die hard 3DL person cause I understood how to deal and make the textures butt at least on my computer it's gotten alot slower rendering, and then to try Filament ......
These are a miix of older figures switched to Filament or Filatoon
Yeah, Filatoon can do everything I needed PWToon to do, but it does it faster.
For some reason I haven't been getting notification updates for this topic. Great work everyone!
Page 4 for this thread? Come on!
So back to page 1 it comes. I'm happy to call my first proper animation experiment and project in FilaToon done. I was working on this last Nov, but had to leave it for a while, and returned to it this week. Conclusion once again: FilaToon is fantastic!
Approx 1.5 min video, ~3200 frames, 1280 x 720 resolution. Rendering took around 3 hours or so on my 3080 for that if done altogether.
At any point, I was able to render some segments several times as I messed around to see what would work without worrying about rendering times, which was great. Any frustrations I experienced had more to do with animation in DAZ, but I'm just really new to that.
Shout-out to @emanuela1! Her theme "Dreams" for the Nov 2024 freebie challenge inspired this project. As I worked on the render for that challenge, I wrote and produced the song on the same theme, and used that render as a starting point for the video. (It's upscaled to 1920 x 1080 and crisp on my computer, but YT is lowering the quality at times during playback sadly. Eh.)
FilaToon is interestingly visually glitchy at times, especially with emissives and props "appearing and disappearing" randomly at times as the camera moves around. But for this project, which is stylized and more about mood, that looked kinda neat! I have to see how it behaves on other projects. I really feel like moving some of my WIP Iray video projects sitting on the backburner over to FilaToon - it's so fast, it actually opens up possibilities for bringing things to life more with a touch of animation. Except I've a feeling that I have to stick with G9 for the benefits, so my G8 projects may not work as well.
Wow! That's breathtaking! And the song is so lovely! You wrote and produced that? Outstanding!
As for the "appearing and disappearing" - that sounds like it might be the transparency issue. Are you using the Filatoon shader on all the surfaces and making sure that the "PBR Masked Threshold" is set fairly low on any surfaces that utilize a Cutout Opacity map?
Again, really stunning work! The voice is haunting and beautiful as are the visuals! Well done!
Very cool!
Great use of those products! I love retro sci-fi and purchased that rocket thing a long time ago, can't remember if it was here or old RDNA and I think I only used it once with V4. This looks great Filatooned!
Wow, really amazing! This would be awesome in VR! This is exactly the type of arty VR experience I love to watch before sleep and after my Cannabis tea lol. (Totally legal here in California!
)
Just a quick test, playing with old content. G1 mix. Testing Daria Hair that I got for $2.00 to get a gold star. Which was stupid, I have tons of similar newer hair and I should have gotten a gift card for $1.00 but didn't think of it. When I added back the transmap and played with PBR Masked Threshold, it looked even worse. Have to check it in iRay. May return it. It's for Gen 4 (A4) really old...
3Diva Aw, thank you so much for your lovely comments!
I'm excited about animating more with FilaToon - it's fun and such a gamechanger.
Thank you for the very helpful tip too! I'm going to check what I did and keep this noted down for reference.
Wonderland Thank you very much!
That's so cool about VR - what kind of devices and collections do you use to access these VR experiences? I don't know anything about it...
I use the Meta Quest 2. The 3 is out but the 2 is fine for my purposes. You can be fully immersed into cool arty experiences or travel all over the world or watch Netflix on huge virtual screens and then the stuff they actually market it for, like games, workout apps, etc... I personally like just chilling out inside beautiful artistic experiences like your video. I have no idea how to actually create a VR experience though but if you're interested I know Mada is really into VR and can probably help you.
So I combined two FilaToon renders in AI. I'm really liking adding AI to renders. The AI always looks better to me.
Leaning about toonifying G9 skins. No AI, just Filatoon and a bunch of filters in Photoshop.
I love FIlatoon, because of how system resource friendly it is.
I can actually render things in the scope that match my ideas.
Thank you.
Filatoon and filament drawing options seem easier to handle than my old method using pwToon and photoshop . Here my first test using these new features . Using Linear than reinhard mode , so I can tweak it just like using photoshop . Still need digging how to make better shadow though . And it`s maybe the right time back using DAZ studio again
These look great!!
Look amazing.
Great to see you posting again in Daz forums.
I'm glad my November 2024 theme Dreams inspired such a beautiful work. I really like both the video and the song, (even though I'm not a native English speaker so I don't understand the lyrics, but I appreciate the musicality). You are a really very good artist!
Yeah, in many ways it feels like a sucessor to PWToon! Your tests look fantastic with it.
emanuela1 You're very kind. Thank you so much!
I'm always grateful to the sparks of inspiration that artistic challenges give, because suddenly there's a whole new piece of expressive art that wasn't there before. It's magic!
juvesatriani Those tests are looking great! If I remember right, you had a lot of lovely work with cyberpunk settings? So definitely try FilaToon with some of the environments as well - many convert really well. Easy FilaToon or V3D FilaToon Converter will make short work of that!
I can't personally vouch for Easy Filatoon, as I haven't bought that yet, but I can tell you that V3D's FilaToon Convertor is fantastic, and can even work in tandem with Scene Optimizer to rip out the maps you don't need for a scene you're going to apply Filatoon to.
I have a quick question: Someone managed to have fully working transmaps in Filament but I can't find any new clues about it. It all started with a new product which had billboard grass with transmaps.
Anyone knows?
Once you apply the transmap, play with the PBR Masked Threshold setting.
experimenting with composites. In this case, I did two renders. I did two renders in filatoon, one normal one to get the information I needed for the colours, and one where I removed all maps and colours for the "base" and the "ambient" settings. I set everything to a light grey and rendered it as well. In Ps I used a halftone filter for the greyscale render and used the multiply blending mode.
