Where can I find a texture preview sphere?

I really like the sphere texture preview thingy shown in Shader products such as this one http://www.daz3d.com/catalog/product/view/id/23855 and wondered if this is something available to download and use ourselves? I'd search sharecg or the freebies but I honestly haven't a clue what to search for haha.

Thanks in advance :D

There is one in your DAZ content. It is called "Iray material ball" or something like that. Not at my computer right now, so I can't give the exact location. I think it is installed with the default content pack. The sphere in the promo you linked looks like it is a part of that set (the complete model has a stand).

  • Yeah, I think it comes with the default Daz Studio lights and shaders pack. The thing is called DAZ Material Ball and it should be in your props folder.

  • Oh wow that's great many thanks! I'll go hunting in my content now.

    Appreciate the replies :)

Couldn't one also just create a sphere primitive and apply the tecture to the surface?

Certainly, but 1. It is already available as part of DS and 2. It is not a simple sphere, it has two layers and "bubbles" as well as a stand. Those help greatly in visualizing the material effects when using translucent/transparent or reflective materials.

Yeah, but the Iray Ball is a bit more complex than a simple sphere (it has several material zones and some 'definition').

Thanks, never used the material and didn't think about multiple material zones. Didn't think it was that simple, but wasn't sure.
