Having a problem with Luxrender crashing whenever I try to render a new scene...

Hello everyone,

I've been using Reality 4.2 for Daz Studio. I haven't had any issues with it so far, and it's a great product. But what has been happening recently is that Luxrender crashes when it tries to load the scene. Here's the workflow:

1) Load scene in Daz Studio

2) Load Reality 4.2 and configure materials

3) Export to Luxrender

After that, Luxrender starts up. Then it goes to the "parsing scenefile" step, but crashes right before the "rendering" step. I checked the log, and there were no errors. Strangely enough, this only happens when I create a new scene and try to render it. I loaded an old scene that had rendered before, and it rendered again just fine. I suspect that there might be a problem with memory, but I don't know what to do. Should I delete all of my .lxs files and resource folders?

Thanks

Have you tried starting the scene that crashes without Studio running...just using the Luxrender UI?

Yes, I have. It keeps crashing, though. What I forgot to mention in my original post was that Luxrender does NOT crash when rendering very simple scenes, like a cube primitive with one light source.

Reality is quite broken I'm afraid. If you've deleted a camera, Reality will somehow only even use that one deleted camera. It often has the same problem with lights where it will use the first one it find regardless if you have it on or off (and ignores the settings you pick in their app). It crashes almost every time. I've posted numerous times at rdna (where their official forum is at) and they just repeat that it's DAZ software that is buggy.

If you start with a new scene and gradually merge in piece by piece, you can often get to a point where Lux will render your scene correctly. But good luck.

Note that LuxRender itself is fine. The Reality plugin is what's garbage.

How big is the lxs file and does Reality make a 'unified' lxs or does it retain separate geometry and material files?

I am with Alien on this one, it jumped the shark. Promises of faster times and improvements are always made but has not lived up to the hype. It has been off my systems for a while now..

The lxs file is 105kb large. I think that Reality makes separate geometry and material files. They're stored in the 'objects' and 'textures' folders respectively, and those folders are in the '[scene name]-Resources' folder. The 'objects' folder contains .ply files while the 'textures' has jpegs.
