Some questions on converting v4 stuff
Ok, so I see a number of intriguing v4 characters out there, but I don't want v4. I want g2. I've found a bunch of different items that convert different pieces of v4. But I have some questions.
First off, do you need to have the original v4 base and morphs in order to do these conversions? What I am asking is, can I buy the figure in question, and use the software to convert it without owning the v4 base? If not, there isn't much reason to invest in all of that from my point of view.
Second, if I just want the texture and morph, how many conversion scripts do I need? I see Genesis Generation x2 and apparently I need the separate add on for that to do genesis 2. Then another item, v4 Skins Batch Converter for the textures. Would these 3 items cover everything? Also, how well do these work, are they they the best way to go? Do the textures get stretched by this process? Is the end result comparable to a figure created for genesis 2?

For textures, technically you don't need anything other than what is built into Studio to go from V4 to Genesis 2. You just need to do it in stages. Things like the scripts make it easier (and possibly quicker).
For morphs you need GenX2 and the various 'packs' to get the shapes to use.
To use GenX2 to translate V4 characters to G2F you need to at least own the base V4 character and V4++ morphs. Some V4 characters require the Elite V4 morphs too. The Victoria 4.2 Starter Bundle includes the base character and the V4++ morphs. You can usually get V4 on sale. At the moment it shows 74% off for me, but maybe that is because I'm a PC+ club member.
You will also need the Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female which gives you the Victoria 4 UVs for G2F.
The v4 Skins Batch Converter is a convience script. I have converted many V4 skins to G2F without it. You just apply the skin to V4 and then save it as a material preset. You then apply the material preset you just saved to G2F. It will load looking all screwed up, but just select all the skin zones and change the UVs to Victoria 4. Then it will look correct.
The reason of all these steps is G2F only supports skin presets in .duf format and almost all V4 skin presets are in some other format. So you load the skin on V4 and save it in .duf format. V4 does not support multiple UVs, so when you save it the .duf assumes default UVs. When you apply the preset to G2F it assumes default UVs which is G2F UVs, so the skin looks wrong. Just manually change all the UVs to V4 and save the preset again and you will be good to go.
The batch convert script just automates those steps.
I do have pc+, so I have considered it. That is part of why I am asking as a lot of the related products are on sale right now. But that still requires a bunch of purchases, and they add up quick, to me at least. So I am thinking about how many v4 figures I would really want before diving in.
Thanks for the information. I'll have to think it over a bit.
On at least one (I think 2) occasions last year V4 and her morph packs were given away for free, and right now they are at 75% off for PC members, so should not cost the earth to grab. Probably 90% of the V4 characters available, both pay and free, only require V4 and her Morphs++, of the remaining 10% some will need A4, a few S4 and even fewer Girl 4. Those requiring anything else are very rare.
M4 was at least 2 and V4 was at least once...
