Paled cat (solved)

Greetings. I've been trying for days to figure out how to make the Big Cats 2 tiger look more realistic in the iray renderings, but for some reason, it always comes out pale and looks hairless. Is there anyone who can help me figure this out? I'm selecting "fur" from the hair section of the Smart Content, and also going to the Surface tab and selecting the tiger material.

Thanks.

For rendering in Iray you will need to convert the fur to obj here is a tut from LAMH creator.

It looks like you have the spotlight turned on  on your camera which may be contributing to washing out the textures on the cat as it appears a little close. You may need to manually tweak the textures a bit as they are configured for 3Ddelight. But I would probably have a look at the lighting first.

  • Actually just looking at the latest LAMH apparently Fibrehair is being recommended over obj by LAMH creators.

    Here is a thread discussing.

Thank you both for the input. I turned off the light of the camera and added some iray light but still came out the same. Unfortunately, I don't have Look At My Hair, only the player.

If you are using just the player, I'm not sure how to make the preset Iray compatible...

  • You'd have to look through that thread that DA linked, but I do believe that AM said that the player could be used to bring the fiberhair into DS as well.  Unfortunately, I don't have the player installed, but have the full product so I can't test that out.  I will see if I can find where I remember seeing him say that, though, and, if I can, I'll post a link directly to that post.  I think we can still do that in the forums, not sure as I haven't tried doing that yet.

I haven't tried it with the player, and I'm running a render using a hair preset, so I can't check right now...

  • I found where I heard AM say that it works with either the full product or the free player.  It was in his LAMH in Iray tutorial on AM's Youtube channel.  It is a great tutorial and I highly recommend watching it.  Great advice and tips for rendering the hair in Iray.  There is also the offical LAMH thread that has lots of pictures and advice for using the product.  There is even a thread for the free player.

Ah, thanks for that.  I wasn't sure.  I've put that on one of my stickies on the desktop.  Couldn't do that this time as I ended up finding the reference in his video.  I appreciate the info, though, as it will come in handy in the future.

I was going to try the LAMH player, but it seems to had been removed from the "Create" menu of Daz 4.9.... Unless there is supposed to be a different path than previous Daz versions.

Is this a fresh install of the player into 4.9 or an update?

If it was previously installed you may need to uninstall and reinstall it.

Hello, check if you can open the LAMH Pane from Window->Panes->Look at my Hair. If you can trigger it up, then you can attach a .lmh preset (or more easily to load the LAMH Big Cat2 character from the Content Library).

At that point, if you click the 'to .OBJ' button on the player you can convert LAMH fur to .OBJ. It's not FiberHair (which allow to generate a much lighter .OBJ geometry without sensible loss of quality), which is available on the LAMH full version.

Thanks again. I have an updated 4.9, so unistalling it and reinstalling it brought the options back under "Create" and under the "Pane (tabs)" option. I was trying to understand why the reference to LAMH, I think the issue is that it is being assumed that I have the LAMH for Big Cats 2, which I don't. I bought the Big Cats 2, not knowing that I have to buy it as extra. So if I don't have LAMH for Big Cats 2, does it mean it won't be possible to make the tiger look with fur in iray?

    You can try displacement fur

there are some iray fur shaders in store or use fuzzywuzzy shaders at sharecg and increase the subdivision in the iray uber shader after appying it

The fur add-on is currently on sale for under $8...so if you are planning on using it often, it is worth it.  Less than $1 per breed.

I figured out how to remove the pale color! So simple, without any use of any add-ons!

All I had to do was convert the fur to iray shader. Then selected the fur and changed the gamma of the diffuse color to 2.94.

    That's it!

I'm still planning to buy the LAMH later on, since the fur in the face is not showing up much, but at least the pale color is gone!

Okay, now I can go to sleep. I've been trying to figure this out for the longest time. Thank you all for your great input! Hope this helps others. :)
