Kit bashing armor. Is there such a thing?

Anyone know of any product that allows you to kit bash armor? I've purchased a few armor clothing off the Daz store and while most of them are nice, sometimes I feel like they could use extra flourishes or details. (I've tried mixing clothing together and sometimes that produces decent results)

I guess the closest thing for comparison is this sci fi kit bash:

Nope...no armor kit like that, that I know of.

A lot can be done with things like bump/displacement/normal maps, too...I've etched steel armor and embossed leather with displacement maps and had nice results.

  • There's the Piecemaille Armor Kit for M4. I don't know of anything more recent.

There is nothing stopping you from using pieces of armor from many different sets.  Granted they won't all line up nicely into one suit of armor, but you could use gauntlets from set 1, bracers from set 1, shoulder thingies (pauldrons?) from set 3, a chest piece from set 4, boots from set 5, etc. if there is either a bit of a gap between them showing skin (common in the partially armored styles often seen in art). And if you were willing to eliminate the material that came with them and use a shader, or modify the material, you could have pieces that overlap but it might still work and just look like random bulges or decorative bits because all the pieces are one material.  Perhaps one could use a few primitives, spikes, cloth wrappings, or other objects to hide any flaws where two pieces don't join nicely.

If you get yourself a modelling program anything can be kitbashed.

Aw. I had a feeling it didn't exist.

But ya I've been searching for pieces to glue on

Bodysuits with mail/leather/quilted linen (or just flat black) textures/shaders can be a convenient way to cope with gaps.

Also look for second skin and even MR's for leather, mail or carbonfibre.  Check out some of the texture sites.  Even tiling textures can be applied to mat zones.

You can just parent objects to bones, things like skulls, jewels etc as armour rigid

    Use a chainmail undersuit

can resize sheilds and things too as bits, look in your props

Yeah, what I normally do for rigid armor is I parent the breastplate to the chest, adjust to fit. Possibly also shoulder and hip armor -- basically, anywhere joints are very flexible and liable to turn armor to putty.

Then I either use a bodysuit, geoshell, or even just retexture the actual body to make a chain layer (which, after all, is fairly realistic).

And doing that, you can with a little fitting work put just about any armor on anyone...I've used an old, old freebie armor on G2M that way.  And if you are using 3Delight, 3dcheapskate has a tiling texture set that does wonderful chain and scale for the under suit.

Also, parts of the M3 Norman set do autofit Genesis and Genesis 2
