By "purchasing" the beta version. Note that it has been strongly hinted by some DAZ guys that the official release will be soon, so you might wish to wait for a few days

Only way to download it right now is the public beta.

If you wait a few hours...

Will it be available through DIM?

    Yes, it already is.

Good, since I tend to miss those updates which aren't, simply because I forget to look for them elsewhere smiley

Didn't know where else to ask these questions or if they've already been answered. I look around, but I didn't find them if they were.

Does Daz Studio 4.9 install to it's own location or will it over-write DS 4.8? And can you have both versions installed and use them separately if 4.9 is a separate install? (I don't mean running them at the same time.)

If you install any old content through Daz Connect, does that mean it will be installed twice? Or does it update it in the locate where the files are? And does that mean it no longer works in DS 4.8, if they are sharing a library? (I would hate to have my entire library installed twice.)

I assume that the new encrypted content would only work in DS 4.9.

    Thanks.

Well, I found out that DS 4.9 replaces 4.8 when it installs.

My downloads are failing for 4.9 right now.

Older content installed through DAZ Connect will install the encrypted version, so essentially, yes, it's installed twice.  Older content installed via DIM or manually will still work in 4.8, but DAZ Connect installed content will only work in 4.9

I would dread having to re-download my entire product library through DAZ Connect, as that's thousands of products and hundreds of Gigs, all on a 1.5Mb line.

But you don't have to re-install it, right? You can still just use what you have installed. I think I read that you have to right click to install existing content through Daz Connect.

I didn't realize that DS 4.9 would replace 4.8 if installed. I don't think previous versions did that. But I no longer have an 4.8 icon. Since it over-wrote 4.8, I would think it would replace the content where it is and not create a second copy somewhere...unless there are two different directories and both are linked in the preferences.

I don't want to fill up my harddrive with duplicate files of the same thing. Like you, I have a lot of content.

  • There's ways to install parallel editions.   I've got several, myself.

Does anyone know if Iray now works in 32-bit or not?

    Iray is 64 bit only.
