How do you create renders like this?
in The Commons
I was wondering how you make renders with the reflections on the ground using the one coloured background (see link)? So I've tried creating a plane primitive (make that look pretty good manipulating the surface tab etc) and then changing the background colour to match the primitive. But when I render the image, the way the light comes off the primitive makes it look separate from the background. Please help, it's driving me insane

Use paper roll instead of a plane.
. . .
Tried to find you a freebie and failed misserably.
A lot, if not all, of Inane Glory's Photo Studio light sets come with one (read the descriptions), check your light preset libary to see if you already have one hiding in there.

In the other thread, which you posted to...did you see the link for the prop?
That integrated floor/wall is what you need instead of separate planes or a plane and the background. The background is just a 'fill' in the alpha channel, so it won't take shadows or anything else...it's just 'there' (color or image), there is nothing to 'shade'.
This prop is what you need...

Here are a couple of actual props...
This one is in Poser format, so it won't be in Smart Content or anything...

Here's one in Studio native format, but non-commercial use only

I can get shadows on a seamless ground and background in Iray by setting a background color in the Environment tab.
Shadows in Iray, with 'draw ground' on...but not reflections. It is basically a colored 'shadow catcher'.
Where IS the link to that prop? Can only see a jpg image for it.
Ooops...I guess that's a link to prixat's thread and not to the prop (and no it's not in that thread either).
There are any number of props that can do this. For example, any of InaneGlory's PhotoShoot products or Sveva's Iray lighting will work. Any of the "Studio" style HDRI's work with "Draw Dome" On.
