Any new Male Characters?

Anything new on the men's character front? It has been rather dry now since we have gotten no new Gen 3 males  and the hairstyle's are nice, but I don't yet have nearly enough male figures in my runtime.

Yeah, even with genesis, genesis 2, and now genesis 3 combined, still not enough males =/

I'm resigned to the fact that new male characters, figures and content is not a priority or passion for most users in the DazStudio/Poser realm. When something new that I like comes out, it makes me appreciate it that much more. But the lack of M7 characters and skins means he's collecting virtual dust in my runtime.

My brother in law is a programmer and he's going to look at Texture Converter for me. He may be able to make a plug-in for my use to convert skins from M4 to M7. If it's successful, I'm going to contact the vendor and see if they want to purchase it to distribute.

It is possible to get skins onto G3M via the V4 to G2M converter that Blacksmith 3D released. It is a bit convoluted though, as you would need to convert any Genesis/G2M/M4 skins to V4 first using map transfer, then V4 to G3F, and then get the G3F UVs for G3M from Slosh to use the converted skins on G3M.

I hope the fact that the male bundles are selling quite well accoring to "whats hot" list will give daz some incentive to give us more male figures.

We know Izabella 7, Girl 7 and possibly Gia 7 are on their way..........and no sign of any new males....  : (

After the problems with gen 2 male I fully embraced M7. But finding hardly anything new for him has been disheartening. Ive bought every male figure released and yet there is so much I still need to make my more scenes.

I'd love a converter for old skins and would even pay to have old skins brought over.  But having not enough skins to work with is making it difficult.

  • What about clothing? I thought I saw a conversion utility somewhere that allowed Gen3 characters to wear Gen2 wearables....can't seem to find it on search though.

G2F > G3F and G2M > G3M are included in Genesis 3 Starter Essentials.  "Wear Them All" adds more clothes autofit options.

I have been autofiting older generation clothing for some time. Yes it works, but I would prefer updated wardrobe. Gen 2 males clothing was not always the most realistic.

I also need hair for the men. I do have a number of similar styles like manbun, mohawk. Mainstream male hair is always needed.

You're right. We need more G3M characters!

You all are far more seasoned in Daz than I am. May I ask, if there is such a need for more G3 male characters and options (which I totally agree), what is stopping you from creating your own, or at least modifying existing characters in modelling programs like, say, zBrush? With zBrush you can quite easily create new head morphs, as well as modify existing clothing and hair (for example, lengthening a skirt to ankle length and adding a flare). And with photoshop, you can at least modify existing skin maps (eye lashes, skin tone, etc) to create the appearance of a whole new character.

And for clothing, you can quite easily create enitre new wardrobes in Marvelous Designer.

If the Daz shop is not providing a need, can you not fill that need yourself with all your experience in 3D?  What is stopping you from becoming your own PA?

Is it merely a time issue perhaps?

My attempts with g2m in zBrush are awful.  Maybe I should figure out this program soon.

Time is a big factor, yes. Not only the time spent creating the assets vs the 2 minutes needed to buy some in the store, but also all the training time needed to become good enough with the programs you need to create what you want...

Experience with DS doesn't mean you're experienced or with modelling or texturing, or good at it for that matter. There are quite a few people who create stunning pictures with DS but would be completely lost if they had to model anything more complicated than a stack of cubes...

Price of the software is also another factor. I would personally love to buy Zbrush or Marvelous Designer (especially MD), but they're clearly out of my budget.

I don't particularly enjoy making content and do not have the time. Yes if I didn't  work full time I'd give it a shot but I am not going to retire anytime soon. I did create one male skin but it took too long and matching seams without the correct software was laborious. Daz does not make it easy unless what you are trying to do is boiler plate stuff.

thricegift, as SereneNight said, some of us don't have the time and/or just don't like to learn all those programs and become vendors, and I think it takes some time until you are able to make clothes that don't look like rubbish or characters which are no freaks.

I can dial a character to some extent with the basic G3 morph packs, but unfortunately the basic head morphs of all Genesis generations are a lot more 'basic' than were the old M4/V4 morphs. Slosh's 'Genesis 2 Legacies for Genesis 3 Male' (http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-legacies-for-genesis-3-male-heroes) are really fine and helpful (thank you for making them, Slosh!), as are the 'Genesis 3 Male Body Morphs'. Together with the few characters I have (I didn't buy Leo7) I don't need much more body morphs. To me, head morphs and skins are what matters most.

    Aye to all that!

I really want to have a few Asian characters for M3G. Chinese, Japanese, Philipino, Maori, Indian, Lankese!

We can only hope : ( I'd love to see a pacific islander for G3M but I doubt this will happen.

As in Michael 3?  Is there a weight map version of him?  If not do you want that too?

As an aside, don't go telling the average Māori (or pretty much any Pacifika person) that they are Asian. Not generally appreciated.

But yeah, I'd love to see some (or even a) specificly Polynesian character(s) for Genesis 3 males

For more character variety try the SimTenero Randomizer.  The more morphs in you runtime the more diversity you can create.

    Yes, yes there is.

Where can I find Weight mapped M3?

I have never heard of a weight mapped M3, but Joe Public created weight mapped versions of D3, V3 and a low resolution version of M4 (17K Poly version). Screen shots can be seen on the original threads of the renderosity forum pages by Joe Public, but all the download links no longer work. BasicWiz then hosted downloads for these, but his site also seems to be down, so I am unaware where you can download them at the moment.

Note that all these figures use Poser weight mapping, so will not work in Daz Studio.

Unfortuately there's no textures available to support it, and those that are out there, very few will good enough to make a character.

Anybody know if there will be a UV converter for the G3 like there was for G2?

  • JOdelJOdel Posts: 6,322

    Blacksmith 3D has one. But it isn't a 1-click process, I gather.

Ohi'a for M5 was a very fine one, and maybe some of the textures for Lee6 characters could be turned into G3M textures. I don't know what this would mean technically. Just an idea.

From what is available there isn't any variety to support what was requested, unless you just want chinese characters.
