WHY would you just skip ahead?!!

So I have been wanting to learn to model clothing in Hexagon almost since i started back in Sept. Finally sat down last night to work through the tutorials. Brought the laptop downstairs so I could watch the tutorial on that while using the pc to do the actual stuff. Got started, everything is going along smoothly (okay, not so smooth but I was getting the gist of it and was making something that almost resembles a dress instead of a bad wrapping job). Then, the dude say, so I skipped ahead to.... I was like NOOOOOO! What do you meand YOU SKIPPED AHEAD!! This is is tutorial you can't skip ahead. So after 3 hours of trying to get things just right, I have no idea how to get to the part he is at!!
On a side note is it normal to fiddle with this stuff for hours to get it to fit the shape right? I understand that a lot of it is being completerly clueless but I was having a hard time figuring out which nodes were on the side of the body I was working on and which ones were on the other side of the body that I was NOT trying to work on. Its not very fun untangling nodes by the way.

Bottom bar in Hexagon, fifth icon from the right, looks like wireframe/full cube, depending on that you have activated. When it is full cube, you wont be able to see or select nodes from the other side or through the figure.
Was he skipping a bunch or repetitive stuff? As long as he'd gone through the first two or three iterations, so you could learn the process, that should be survivable. Or was he expecting you to extrapolate from modelling the sleeve to modelling the bodice and skirt (or something along those lines)?
Thank you!
He went straight from, I'm going to fit this a little bit closer (which is fine, I was following that okay) to okay I have skipped ahead and done some smoothing iterations and some other adjustments that off the top of my head I don't remember. It looked totally different from point a (I'm going to fit this a bit more) to point b I've done this this and this with no idea what any of THIS is or where to find it. Or how he got it to look like the next part looked. I did find the smoothing iterations but no idea where to go after that. I have some other tutorials I am going to watch and see if I can fill in the gaps. Honestly, if this was a free tut I would be okay with it, because hey, I am grateful for ANY help when its free even if there is some skipping about. However, I paid for this and it does say step by step. not step by step, jump 4 feet to the left and spin.
lots of good tutorials for blender on cg cookie - they dont skip - free or paid for
If there is a place to review/comment, be sure and do so. The person doing the training should get this kind of feedback, and so should other buyers.
Is it "Hexagon Revisited 04.01" at 10:55 ?
No its a tutorial specifically for making a dress in hexagon from start to finish. The exact name escapes me at the moment.
Thank you! Blender intimidates the heck out of me but its on my list of things to learn this year.
It's probably this one:
http://www.daz3d.com/master-hexagon-sexy-genesis-outfits
Some of their videos are included in more than one product, this is one of them. Copied from the product page:
"NOTE: This video is part of Hexagon Revisited, that also covers more in depth modeling basics as well as how to become a bestselling vendor. If you own Hexagon Revisited or plan to get it, you do not need this video."
So it is the same one I'm talking about, which is also about making a dress.
[sound of clearing throat] ..... how to say this and not get post deleted ... hmmm ... some folk don't want feedback.
Fugazi's tutorial on making a bikini for Genesis 1 in Hexagon is very good, he doesn't skip anything, even shows the grueling point but point adjustment to get it fitting nice. And then show you how to get it into studio and working on the figure which a lot of them don't.
I have this and it will be the one I work on the next time I have a good block of time to sit down and play along.
I would rather not say (see next post down from yours lol).
Jen Greenlees has a good series of videos on making a dress on Victoria 4 on her Youtube channel. While a little outdated now that we have newer models, the basics in Hexagon and making clothing haven't changed much. It was very helpful to me. Part 1 starts here. You might want to check it out, too. Fugazi's tutorial is pretty good. I have that one, too. I liked that he took it a step further. Like Fisty says, a lot of the others just stop once the outfit is done and don't show what you do once you are back inside DS. Fugasi shows how to make adjustment morphs for the different body shapes. He also has a tutorial that comes with his Genesis Starter set that is real good that goes into making trims and seams and stuf. It also does a good job of showing how to do the uv mapping and unpacking. I love that he made a mistake in one of his videos and then proceeded to tell what his mistake was and show how to fix it.
I don't think it's meant to be used as a standalone tutorial, at least not for people not experienced with modeling. If you want something from Dreamlight I'd go for Hexagon Revisited, it's expensive but it will give you the necessary knowledge to understand the tutorial you're talking about.

Basically he's just changing the DrawStyle (the way the model is being displayed) from Lit Wireframe to Smoothed Solid, playing a bit with subdivision, and doing a few adjustments to the mesh. Fairly simple.
I'm going to put in another recomendation for tutorials by Fugazi. He has a nice voice, and he doesn't move on too quickly, even showing the drudge work as Fisty says, which isn't very entertaining, but needed if you really are starting from scratch. I learned tons from his 3DCoat videos, and his hexagon ones are very good too.
I will say blender is a very powerful program and the the tools are amazing. But until they bring the interface into 20th century they will never get many people to use it, I wish they would just take the plunge as I would love to use it. I've tried several times and nope it's not logical where they put things but I guess I'm spoiled by Modo. No disrespect intended !
Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the links and the advice. And thank you Taozen for filling that in. I am starting from scratch but I went off the advertisement that said easy lol. I am sure it will be useful once I am a bit more familiar. I will check out Dreamlight, I have several other tutorials from him ( I tend to wait for the sales lol) and find him pretty easy to learn from. Fugazi is definitly going to be the next one I work through.
