Just listened to Duran Duran's FAME and loved it.  I found it on this: Starman: Rare and Exclusive Versions of 18 Classic David Bowie Songs.  It's got an all star line up of favorite artists paying tribute to David Bowie and his hits.... It's sort of a rarity and found a Very Good used copy on Amazon.  Checked my cart out immediately!  lol

I'm a big Duran Duran fan and without David Bowie and his musical influence, they would never have existed.

Heh, I thought I was the last Duranie on the planet. *High 5 my friend*

    Here's one for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbZIHJgA_Z4

Without David Bowie we would not have so much of the music we have today. Even my son found on KMFDM's (90's industrial band, still recording today) Face Book page a "R.I.P David Bowie. Thanks for the inspiration" post.

While Under Pressure with Queen made me cry, this one made me smile. I think I'm the only person on the planet that remembers Mr. Bowie in the movie Absolute Beginners, too.

Funny, because I was beginning to think the same cheeky *Hi five*

I've listened to Duran Duran's version of Fame quite a few times in the past few days. I've also been watching their version of "Starman" (performed Live in Greece). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIh1P5LCqRw (here's the link... if anyone wants to see it)

That Starman cover was most excellent. Thanks for the link. RAMWolff, thanks for the tip. I'm going to search down that tribute album to hopefully score a copy of my own.

The world owes so much to Bowie.

Edit: Another perfect moment in my life - David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails touring together.

    Scary Monsters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8rxWlUF3Eg

    I was there.

Edit 2: True story. 1987. Glass Spiders tour.

My friend called me. "Hey, do you know how to get to the Rosemont Horizon?"

    Me: "Uhm, no"

Friend: "Well you have 20 minutes to figure it out because me and Tim are coming to pick you up to see David Bowie."

He rocked it. He cranked it. He killed it.

As a guitar player myself I was enamored by was incredible the talent he worked with: Mick Ronson, Adrian Belew, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Fripp, Reeves Gabriels, Peter Frampton, Carlos Alamar and Earl Slick  but David was an amazing player as well, listen to his guitar playing on Space Oddity or Rebel Rebel. Bowie had chops!

I'm a big Stevie Ray Vaughan fan and didn't know the connection there. Bowie had him do the guitar on Lets Dance and China Girl, two of my favorites, among others.

    RIP

If you like the song Under Pressure, you have to hear this version. Bowie regularly played it live, accompanied by his bass player, Gail Ann Dorsey. She's not only a great bass player and singer, but one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. (Unfortunately for us men, I believe she's gay - but as I always say, "You can't have jam on everything" - LOL).

I have several versions of this on my pc, and I never tire of watching them.

Hands down the greatest cover of "When You Rock and Roll With Me" performed by a 6'8" clown with the voice of Tom Jones.

If you don't like clowns or your just morally terrified of them like I am close your eyes and listen, it's from the heart.

  • Will -- Sniff. I have something in my eye. :D [And yay -- someone used one of my freebies in a render!]

maclean -- Wow, I liked that song with him and Freddie Mercury, but this version is just awesome too! It was hot x hot when David Bowie and Freddie Mercury did it, but it's hotter x hotter when David Bowie does it with Gail Ann Dorsey!

Yea, the news of the great Alan Rickman this AM.  What the hell is going on with the world?  All three passed from cancer, all were from England and all three passed at about the same age.  WEIRD!

One of the first things my son said to me this morning was that at least the "rule of three" was complete.

Yup... let's hope it holds for a while!

Palladia ran a 4 hour special showing all of his videos, and some live concert clips. Outstanding.
