Yeah, there doesn't seem to be one unless i'm being very dense. For a quick workaround, you can go to google and type site:daz3d.com Victoria 7 Just replace victoria 7 with your search term. It's not the best solution but it does the job.
Try this directly: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/search
Good Call. I wonder why there is no clear search button, since it's clearly working fine?
They've bolluxed up the date/time stamps as well. The info is there is you hold the cursor over it, but otherwise all you see is the month/year for things posted prior to this month. There's really no logical reason for doing this that I can think of and it's going to make searching for individual posts even harder, but since hardly any of the updates to the store and forums over the last few years have been improvements, it's about par for the coruse. (Then again, it's not exactly a secret that the vast majority of site upgrades just about everywhere are really primarily about finding new things for the programmers to charge for rather than actually improving functionality.)
Yeah, the month only thing is a pain... Hovering over the date does not exist on tablets and mobile devices as far as I'm aware and I primarily use my iPad for the forums.
It's a weird feature because what advantage does that give?... It would seem to me that to do something to differentiate between dates from the previous year and the current one, adds a step or additional code? Wouldn't it make more sense that all dates display the same?... Maybe I'm understanding it wrong. Perhaps it's a crappy preset that came with the forum software or some setting that got changed somehow... If it was done deliberately, unless there is some technical, behind the scenes advantage for the web team, I don't think there is a full understanding of how people use forums and why.
Whatever, I guess it's here to stay...
Thanks for the direct link. I'm not surprised that it's not prominently displayed any more - it's got to be the worst forum search facility I've ever encountered, and I'd be embarassed to show it too. I've never come across a search facility that makes you trawl through pages of entire posts to decide that they're not relevant to what you're looking for, rather than showing you a list of titles with a brief snippet beneath each one. To make it even worse, there's no pagination at the bottom, just 'next' and 'previous' links and so you get no idea how long you're going to be skimming through stuff for that has absolutely nothing to do with your query.
This bothers me, because I've often taken the forums as a substitute for the documentation that Studio and associated programs and content lack, and they can be a good one too, with plenty of input from helpful and knowledgeable users. It probably won't bother Daz that the legacy left by Jaderail and the wisdom of other users who are thankfully still around is being allowed to slip into forum oblivion where it can't be easily found, but it should bother them that they are likely losing money because it's more efficient to search via Google, where links to information on any particular product sit alongside links to torrent sites where you can download said products for nothing.
Sorry if I'm a bit crabby this morning, but having just done battle with the forum search facility and lost again, I'm certain that we deserve better. I'm pretty sure that Daz are short-changing themselves too.
I wrote a small script that changes the search at the top of the forum page to use google. After installing it, you will see no visual difference, but your searches will be redirected to google, so you can find stuff a lot easier than with the forum's built-in search. If you want to give it a try, you can install the script from here: http://civilizationhunt.com/ds/ (It's the "change forum search to google" script.)
