The Holiday Sale...

Well, It's now over, and I'm beyond disappointed... I did not find much redeeming about it, and my months purchases reflect that. It is also the first month in 9 months that I did not use my PA coupon, simply because I found nothing to use it on.... I was originally going to go point by point about why I felt it was a failure, but after thinking about it for a couple days, I realize that most of the things on my list were legitimate business decisions by Daz, and while I might not be happy with them, there was really no reason to Whine about them....

However, There is one issue that I saw a lot of, but will continue to be an issue if left unchecked. Daz, you really must address the issue of improperly working sales scripts. No matter how simple or complex you make the sale, IT MUST WORK THE FIRST TIME EVERY TIME. If your webprovider (magneto) can't handle your scripts, you need to simplify them or find another provider... I put 1 item into my cart, and got 3 different prices for the item, In the cart, before I gave up and canceled my purchase. I'm not talking midnight Daz time, but Noon time the next day.  While many bugs/issues such as the forum login bug and the lack of a real forum seach are issues, I can ignore them, but where my Credit Card/ Bank account/ Money are concerned, I cannot tolerate problems. This was a major issue for me last month, combined the "Customer Service" not being able to "find" my transaction history when I asked for a refund, and wanting me to send them  my bank statement?!?!  AS IF!  If these issues can upset someone with a $150 a month Daz Addiction to the point of only spending $7.00 for the month (and had I actually gotten the refund I asked for it would have been $3.00).

All I know is I'm now questioning the quality of the company, and re-evaluating my plans for future purchases. Buggy sales reflect very poorly on your company.

Hmm... I was not terribly disappointed by the sale. I'm not a fan of the Punch Sale concept, but when they changed it so that punches didn't expire, I was actually able to take advantage of the savings... (Up to a point, having wrung my wallet dry over the previous two sales.)

I would like to point out, however, that Magento is software, not a webprovider. And I've yet to see any software without issues. And while Magento isn't perfect, my experience in ecommerce tells me it is probably the best available for the sheer size of the DAZ store. Some of the other issues we see may be related to using CloudFlare, and the need for the changes to propogate over multiple physical locations.

I personally have never had an issue getting a refund when the cart made a mistake. Customer Service has always been fast and accommodating. I've simply provided the order number and all was taken care of in a professional manner. It is possible that due to a software glitch, you were charged without the order getting recorded. But if that were the case, you also wouldn't have access to the product. And to issue a refund without an order number, any responsible company would require proof of purchase.

I admit there are times when I find this site frustrating, usually having to do with software not behaving as it should. Then again, there are so many people on this site at any given time, it's probably a wonder we don't see more issues than we do!

DAZ has been good to me. I'm sorry to hear your experience here has been otherwise. And I hope you have a great 2016, wherever you decide to spend your 3D budget. Cheers.

  • I thought it was a great sale. the punch system doesn't seem to take place immediately after a purchase of a new release. Not a fan of the punch sales... but this one had great sales.

Magento, Software or provider, really doesn't matter... Magento gets the blame, and if it is to blame then it needs to be fixed, abandoned, or simplified. No Excuses. Do you think Amazon would survive if their shopping cart program glitched like Daz's does? or their sale didn't work? How many Sales a week do we see where half the day is required to "fix" the sale? I use Amazon on a regular basis, and have never needed to use a calculator to make sure my total was correct or had to log in and out to get my cart to give me the correct total.

Normally, I haven't had issues in the past with Customer Service, however it took 3 Emails to get them to agree to give me the refund (after asking for it Repeatedly) and my Order number was included in each, then to get that... It was odd, yes, but it still not very professional, in my opinion.

  • I was going to let this particular sale slide by, until they made the punches stick. After that I went on a bit of a Daz binge on Giftcards and then picking up Genesis 2 Pro bundles.

So in the end my bank account was drained quite a bit. The last time I spent so much was during my first PC sales, when they had punches that you traded in for Pro bundles. I think thats how I got M4/V4 Pro bungles. As I cant remember what I did yesterday, I may be wrong.

The idea behind punches is a good one, but not knowing when a sale will end makes me not want to participate at all. Strangely this holiday sale lasted till the end of the holidays, unlike the summer sale which ended way before the end of summer. If I knew it would last this long, I might have thought about it.

I spent more in the holiday sale than on the PA or PC sales, so I thought it was pretty good. I got a fair few new items, plus some older stuff knocked off the wishlist. I particularly liked some of the 75% off deals.

Same here. All the previous punch sales didn't really do much for me, but this one made it a lot easier (and cheaper!) to hit the top savings category. The only real problem I still have with DAZ sales is that they seem to have this fixation on making them overly complicated, then finding out too late that the store software can't handle the sale rules without a good hard kick in the database.

Spotted: That needs to be underlined and bolded.

I'd MUCH rather have one or two sales set-ups that I can understand, that they've worked the bugs out of, and can use reliably.

Like some sort of 'Buy $50+ worth of stuff, get $10 off, usable once a month' and then special 'this weekend, half off anything more than a month old' or whatever.

    Positives -

The Xmas gifts were generally good, as were the buy a new item get 75% off X item specials once they started running.  The expiring punch thing, on the other hand, has always been a bad idea, and I'd take the fact that they suddenly dropped it halfway through the sale to probably means that sales were getting sluggish prior to that.  I did ended up buying a bunch of stuff, but it was mostly older catalog product at ridiculous discounts (Monique & Callie Pro bundles for $28, Keiko Pro bundle for $35, etc.) and quite a few of the 75% off items coupled with things like a PC item.  I can't really imagine that this sale was a great one for the PAs, though, as I rarely even bothered to shop the individual PA stores for items that only had the standard discounts.

I have to admit, although being one of the first to condemn most of the overly complex DAZ sales, I particularly enjoyed this one, including coming back twice for the combined discounts on gift cards.
